There's a rooftop for lounging, writing and barbecuing in warm weather.  There's also a lot of cool wood work and some strange cheerleader art.

Gawker's neighborhood is actually three neighborhoods: SoHo, NoLita and the Bowery

Gawker is way up at the top of these stairs. There's an elevator somewhere in the building, but no one ever uses it.

"We wanted a space that felt a bit like a library," says founder Nick Denton. "The theory was that young writers -- recently out of college -- would find the long rows of desks comfortingly familiar."

Architect Chris Larkin's steampunk look is on purpose. "We [wanted] to buy a big old printing press for the lobby -- but didn't have enough space," says Nick.
