Making everybody feel like they are part of the journey helps build ownership. Young Creatives: With any career, it’s a marathon and not a sprint. Don’t expect overnight success. Luck is when preparation meets an opportunity.

Human creativity can do things machines cannot. This is me today. Sitting in my favourite spot on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. I come here to think, write, ideate, doodle, and daydream. I watch the long tail boats speed past. I watch 7ft long monitor lizards swim by, occasionally some have lunch in their mouths - large catfish. I let my mind wander and wonder. I grew up on a river in Sydney, so I feel very content here. There is a scientific theory about the positive effect of negative ions produced by water when it comes to creative thinking. The sound of the lapping water also calms the mind. I get more ideas sitting here than anywhere else. If you’re stuck for fresh ideas you need to go outside and allow yourself to bump into them. Get stimulated by the world around you. Go analogue. Unplug. Because that's what the machines cannot do. "You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have." Pride month is coming to an end, but it's never too late to discuss important matters. Along with Ching C., I was invited by Ogilvy Singapore for a fireside chat about "How to be an ally?". In times where oppression against queer people is still alive and well across the globe, it's even more important for companies to create safe environments for their LGBTQ+ employees - and allyship is the key to that. For me, growing up queer meant growing up in fear. I feared being exposed, disappointing my loved ones, and worried that my "gayness" would hinder me from achieving my goals - and many LGBTQ+ individuals share these same feelings in their youth. When companies openly discuss allyship, we can work without the fears that used to haunt us. It sends a clear message that our sexuality or gender identity will not hold us back in any way. Based on what we chatted, here are five key tips for being a true ally (in a nutshell): 1 . Keep your ears wide open: be able to listen, understand, and show empathy. 2 . Forget assumptions and preconceptions (as they may lead to uncomfortable situations). 3 . Take a stand: bullying and homo/transphobic "jokes" can't be indulged or tolerated. 4 . Educate yourself: don't expect queer people to "teach" you everything (we are tired). 5 . Representation does matter: are you promoting diversity in your teams? If you think content inflation is a problem now with all these streamers producing more content than we can consume, imagine when creators no longer need to rely on big budgets and big studios to bring their ideas to life. Yes, Artificial Intelligence willl likely reduce the number of people needed to do anything, including movies and tv series. On the other hand, it will also allow a lot more of those to get their ideas off the ground. That may reshape the ecosystem, change the current notion of what a career is, or how one thinks of their specialty… it will be dramatically and unfortunately some people will have a rough time, but looking at the transformations only through its challenges may hold us from tackling the opportunities it also presents. Serendipity happens. Earlier today, I was having a conversation explaining the futurist concept of having "NO AI" zones, where people might seek vacation and refuge from all manufactured or digital experiences. Great post and article Rodd Chant ®© couldn't agree more: ‘The agencies that erase the more senior talent from their spreadsheets are setting themselves up for failure. They are also creating more new competitors. Many senior talent who were either laid off or left due to dissatisfaction with the agency system are setting up micro-agencies, offering clients more hands-on direct contact with senior people who are creating the work and who have enough experience to work one-to-one with clients. ‘ We are all faced with the situation: More time, hands-on using the expertise we have gathered working closer with clients = Greater relevance and better creative solutions doing what we love! 👏

Sunday Creative Book Club - the book club that's not really a book club, but maybe should be. In this installment a book I was introduced to when I was moving from the music industry into the advertising industry. Lateral Thinking by Edward de Bono. Suddenly, some of the ways I was thinking made sense and it also opened my mind to more ways to come up with ideas. Fair amount of people popping off in the creative community about Jaguar's new rebrand with some pretty heavy comments. Am I defending the choices and is it for me? No. But here's the thing: how many dropping these clever and scathing comments about "death of British icon and its heritage" were actually ever planning to buy a Jag? Or even considered it a viable car they'd be looking to buy in the next 3-5 years? 10? Truth is, heritage brands like Jaguar face an impossible task. Stay the same, you're dinosaurs - sales fall off as only 65-year-old blokes are buying them. Try to evolve, you're "killing an icon." It's a poor rebrand (or a very clever stunt), but at least they're taking a swing at reaching a new generation. The execution might not land for everyone (or at all) but from one creative to another – sometimes you need to break things and upset a few people to build something new.
