For the moment Volition are no longer actively taking on any SaaS/Software Solutions FinTech firms as we have signed two recently and have one more really exciting company in the hopper. We actively recruit for about 10% of the firms in this market which seems like a good number. However, due to some internal changes towards recruitment, we've also lost a couple of steady Market Data / Analytics / Research clients in the last 6 months. So I'm looking to partner closely with any up & coming Data firms in 2025. A few weeks ago I spoke with a CTO that had been looking for an Embedded Software Engineer for 4 months. 🧐 They had tried to advertise the position on multiple channels -> 100+ applications -> 3 interviews -> 0 hires. 😶 They had tried to work with three recruitment agencies -> 13 CVs received -> 3 interviews -> 0 hires. 😑 Yesterday afternoon the only candidate I submitted, was hired. 😶‍🌫️ What was the difference? A 30 minutes long scheduled and prepared discovery meeting vs "I don't have time for a call" given to the other agencies. ✅ After the meeting, I understood the company, their mission, their culture and what type of candidate would fit perfectly in their team. 😊 This allowed me to present the company as if it was my own, while the other agencies only knew what keywords to put into LinkedIn recruiter. 😎 If you "spray and pray" your vacancy to recruiters, they will "spray and pray" it to the market and will then "spray and pray" you with irrelevant or mediocre CVs. 😑 Minimising communication will not save you any time. ✅ Instead, choose a niche recruiter specialised in what you're hiring for -> set up a discovery call -> and be positively surprised. "We have lots of candidates but just not the right ones" A big theme coming from my conversations with hiring managers and TA teams across Europe - especially ones hiring really Senior Engineering talent, and Leaders too. It is clear things have changed in Tech hiring in the last 18 months. Companies are super picky, and won't budge on their requirements and their salaries. Many hiring managers complain of inflated salaries and job titles - and not enough impact coming across in interview performance to match it. But as the market picks up something will have to give. We’ve decided to provide some external guidance on our approach if you’re going to use AI while applying for a job to Monzo Bank. Our approach is to accept that candidates will increasingly use AI and our guidelines focus on how you can use it effectively, rather than discourage you from using it at all. Struggling with High Recruitment Loads? During my research on current recruitment challenges among hiring managers from the US, Canada, and Europe, I discovered a common issue: a high level of irrelevant applications on job boards. Let's break down the typical funnel for a Software Engineer vacancy: 300 to 600 applicants on average 60% totally irrelevant (360) 25% could work out (150) 15% good profiles to process (90) 3% perfect match (18) The main problem is the TIME spent reviewing these numerous CVs.
