Very proud to have been involved in this project. This has involved deep collaboration, planning, evaluation and TIME. On a personal level, what have I learnt from the experience? Quite a lot and obviously more to come! 1. Digital assessment can be made accessible and contemporary, but requires due consideration on its audience, familiarisation, testing and evolution. 2. Working with leading-edge platforms requires enhanced collaboration, especially within an evolving digital assessment environment. I have no doubt that assessments can only strengthen in their validity and will attract a greater audience, perhaps a proportion of which may have experienced a historic lack of accessibility. 3. Learning from 'sticking points' and identifying alternative ways of working and implementation. Digital assessment may not hold all the answers, but there are definitely not insurmountable issues and platform will evolve to meet future challenges. How can we ensure that our education system promotes social mobility and doesn’t leave any student behind, regardless of their socio-economic background? This article discusses the attainment gap between high-achieving disadvantaged pupils and their affluent peers, particularly in relation to GCSE Maths. How can we address the issue of school engagement among academically able children from poor backgrounds, particularly during key stage 3? What are the main barriers that prevent high-achieving disadvantaged students from attaining top GCSE grades, and how can we address these? I'd be keen to hear from my network on this article and what you are experiencing at the "coal face".

Digital tools promise cost-effective, timely data for informed decision-making, offering time-saving benefits over paper-based methods. We assessed 50 tools, diving deep into four, to provide insights into their uses and challenges. Our report examines data collection and visualisation tools in education across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia and highlights the key insights and gaps in the market and what support should be provided to fill these gaps. Many schools gather data to track where students begin and how much they progress, but they often don't have the tools or the capacity to analyse this information to assess which specific interventions are working or have ceased to be effective. There could be several reasons why an intervention stops working: student demographics or needs may have shifted, the intervention might not be implemented consistently, or perhaps it's an approach that was considered effective 20 years ago but is now known to be less beneficial. The findings from this article in TES are based on data from the UK Millennium Cohort Study, which tracks the lives of young people born in 2000-02. The study examined GCSE performance while accounting for factors like family income, parental occupation, and home ownership. Core Subjects Performance: Private school students in England no longer outperform state school students in GCSEs for English, maths, and science when results are adjusted for socioeconomic background. State school students actually perform better in these core subjects. Creative Arts Subjects: Despite the gap closing in core subjects, private school students continue to achieve higher results in creative arts subjects like music, drama, and art, even after adjusting for socioeconomic background. Researchers have their own thoughts about why this is. But I'm interested to hear from my own network. What do you think the reason is? What factors influence creative subjects in state schools?
