Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace report 2024 is out, and there’s a crucial call to action for UK based people leaders - only 10% of your workforce is engaged. Gallup estimates that low levels of engagement costs the global economy $8.9 trillion — or 9% of global gross domestic product. The disengagement trend inside companies ripples out to wider society, and affects macroeconomic performance. Of companies with high engagement, they found the following business results - a 68% increase in employee wellbeing; a 23% increase in profitability and a 13% increase in productivity. We can all think of high profile examples of leaders whose actions have damaged their reputation around integrity, honesty, and ultimately trust, let alone the smaller everyday 'dents' that we notice in our interpersonal interactions. This #360feedback research has identified some of the key behaviours that lead to reputational risk and some specific actions to help leaders make meaningful and sustainable improvements.
