Drumroll…For the first time in ten years, the advertising sector is no longer the least trusted sector in the UK, and we will take it. Or to phrase it a little differently, when life gives you lemons… make lemonade. The baton has been passed, now just 26% of consumers trust the media and government, compared to 30% who now trust advertising—a ‘7%’ increase from 2022. All playfulness aside, it’s a step in the right direction and not the only grass shoots this research from the Advertising Association has reviled. Younger people trust adverting more than their mature counterparts. Yes, you heard me right. Younger individuals are more likely than older people to trust online advertising, with younger people having a higher level of faith in advertising (50%) compared to older people (22%). Mabey it’s just because the older generation have rotated around the sun more times and it has made us cynical 😉 but young people are four times more likely to trust online advertising than the over-55s. Good morning today spent with one of our clients at 44 Communications Ltd talking through the results of recent research into one of their core channels. In the past (read: pre-covid) we used to run semi-regular Focus Groups to find out what employees were interested in for the channel. Whilst they were valuable, they took a lot of time to organise and pulled hard-pressed workers off the job for an extended period of time. Not easy to do when there are deadlines and priorities competing for attention. So, this time we worked with the client on a programme of 'Speed focus groups' - fast conversations with employees asking a set of questions and quickly exploring themes. No more than a few minutes of time but some great insights and ideas raised. Added to survey results, these give some flavour and life to the numbers, helping us work with the client to frame an action plan. It's not the first time we've done these. It can be hard getting opinions from front line workers whose priority is service delivery on tight schedules and with limited resources. So, it's important we take time to design measurement approaches that fit their world rather than demand they fit into ours. Just goes to show, research and insight can be done even when operating circumstances may make it seem difficult. Radio goes from strength to strength in last weeks RAJAR results. 88% of the population, thats 51 million people listening radio in the UK. More impressively, they're, on average listening to over 20 hours a week. Radio constantly delivers for our clients and it's easy to see why, when you understand the reach and frequency capability of the channel to hit both broad and niche audiences. One of my New Year's resolutions - yep, I know it's November - was to expand my marketing knowledge beyond industry and comfort zone. Today, I was part of a series of round tables, where I was lucky enough to discuss, debate and absorb what other senior marketers are doing across brand, digital, AI, content and emotive story-telling.
