Also, highlight any industry awards, certifications, or partnerships that demonstrate your expertise and credibility • Clear Calls-to-Action – Include prominent and relevant CTAs to guide them towards desired actions like requesting a consultation or viewing your services. Do clients want to simply call you, complete a form, or send a direct email? • Mug Shots are Good – "Meet the Team" section with bios and images of consultants to foster trust and visual representation. Link directly to Linkedin profiles for further connection. • A Clear Process in Key - Clearly outline your recruitment process and what clients can expect. Planning is the most important task when starting a website project. By implementing these strategies you can create a more distinct and engaging journey for potential candidates and clients. Wow! What a brilliant April so far for Apex Digital 🎉   Lots going on, and lots completing this week, so I think I've earned my morning coffee!   ▶ Coded a dataLayer schema for a growing e-commerce client on BigCommerce. The previous setup was inadequate leading to incorrect measurement. I fixed this with true ecommerce funnel measurement, Google Consent Mode, enhanced conversions, dashboards and cookie consent frameworks. ▶ Another BigCommerce implementation underway, defining dataLayers and tagging to ensure continuity of measurement during a new website launch. ▶ Produced an attribution report stitching together first party identifiers (user_id), CRM & GA4 data in Google BigQuery to provide true first touch acquisition sources for converted users for a property client. ▶ Data analytics project for a very interesting report around recruitment in tech (this one was very interesting to work on, and a little bit different). ▶ Full analytics setup of an online pharmacy website, with optimised Consent mode & cookie compliance framework. ▶ Setup full ecommerce funnel tracking for two clients (a distillery and a brewery), one on WordPress & WooCommerce and one on Shopify. Again, with the usual cookie compliance, consent mode & enhanced conversions. ▶ Preparations for a few new pitches, including a Server-Side tracking project, more ecommerce implementations & analytics audits. ▶ Became a Cookiebot Web CMP by Usercentrics premium implementation partner 🍪 ▶ Finalised a VERY exciting new retainer with a growing agency client - more on this in another post next week! ▶ I've also become a member of The Growth Community, a fantastic business networking group in Yorks & Lincs - would recommend them to any new business starting up. I've mentioned the insights from Mark Ellaway and the team at Bigfork Limited before. This report is well worth a butchers. Two takeaways that chimed with me are that '75% of B2B buyers prefer a rep–free sales experience.' and that what buyers really want from a website is information to help them buy!

The latest development from Google is the new way they are using AI in search results to create more conversational responses, as opposed to lists of websites. It's being trialled in a few states in the US at the moment, so look out for the roll out in the UK some time soon! What is srsltid? And What Are We Going to Do About It? 🐝 Anyone else copping the hump with /?srsltid URLs EVERYWHERE!? I hosted a 2-hour 'Training by Doing' session yesterday evening with a US web design agency via Zoom. Once I quickly understood where they are now and where they would like to get to when it comes to integrating SEO into their agency... I got them to share their screen, logged into one of their clients sites, and I talked them through making SEO tweaks/improvements live on the fly whilst explaining how to spot impactful opportunities, and talking through the why. It makes a massive difference than me just talking through a set of slides. Being hands-on doing the doing whist learning is so impactful. This is how I beat UK government , Go.Compare, and Moneysupermarket Group and made £10K with ONE page. Ever feel like you're shouting into the void, pouring countless hours into content that never sees the light of day? → It's frustrating, demoralising, and downright exhausting. I was there too. Competing against industry giants seemed impossible. But I decided to try something different for this SEO project. I optimised a single page that have high volume and low competition. In one month, the keyword ranked on the top and the traffic doubled, and my client earned an extra £10,000 in sales. Yes, £10K from ONE page in just over a month. I outranked GovUK, Go Compare, and MoneySuperMarket without a massive budget. How did I do it? I tapped into a niche that the big players overlooked. → They focus on broad keywords, but I zeroed in on specific, high-intent search terms. → I addressed the exact pain points people were searching for but couldn't find answers to. → I acquired high quality contextual backlinks over 50 DA. The result? - Skyrocketing up the search rankings. - Organic traffic flooding in. - Sales boosting by £10,000 in a matter of weeks. But here's the thing: → Most businesses ignore the power of targeted SEO. → They think competing with industry giants is futile. → They settle for crumbs when they could have the whole cake. Don't make that mistake. Every day you delay is another day lost to competitors. -Those potential customers are out there, searching for solutions you can provide. - If they don't find you, they'll find someone else. This is your opportunity to level the playing field. - You don't need a massive budget. - You don't need to be a household name. - You just need the right strategy. If I can beat the big players with one page, so can you.

Ok, as it seems to be a sensible topic, I try to put the ball in play: 😶‍🌫️ -Imposter syndrome – 😶‍🌫️ how often have colleagues or others in the industry admitted to feeling it in conversation? For me, it happens quite often, and I’m definitely part of that club too. And it’s not just the “Am I good enough?” part—it’s also the “What the hell am I doing here?” feeling. I’ve always found it strange that an industry built on innovation and collaboration can also foster self-doubt. But hey! Imposter syndrome isn’t just a personal hurdle—it’s an industry-wide issue.(<= this bit here should be bold) Could we be doing more as an industry to acknowledge and address this? Maybe create environments where sharing uncertainties is a strength, not a weakness? I’d love to hear from someone else, also for not being the weirdo dropping this in your timeline. 😥 Do you just live with it, or have you found a way to overcome it? Or, if you know an expert who dives deep into this topic, tag them below, as beside this rant, I'm def not an expert. And maybe let’s start normalizing these conversations

Fantastic example of an awful bit of copy writing. 1 - no one is really sure what an "Enterprise brand" is 2 - you can't talk to a brand 3 - no one knows what a "commerce platform" is or what is does 4 - as I don't know what a commerce platform is, I have no idea what I might want it to handle 5 - no customer ever said "I wish X could handle everything I throw at it" - it has never happened. It's easily fixed: simply message the real problem your actual customer had, use the words they said, and explain how you fixed it for them.

DR and DA are not ranking factors 🛑 A couple of people I've spoken to this week have bought this up, so I thought a post about this could be useful 👩🏽‍💻 DR and DA are metrics made by #Ahrefs and Moz to determine the "trustworthiness" of a domain (in a roundabout way). ❌ There’s no evidence that search engines use Domain Rating (Domain Authority, the power of the domain, etc) as a ranking factor at all ❌ That doesn't mean these metrics are completely useless. They can help to create a picture of a website's "trustworthiness" and are a good (ish) predictor of how well a website will perform in #SERPs. They also offer a way to compare websites within the same niche or industry. But don't believe they directly impact how well a website performs on the SERPs. They also shouldn't be used to determine the "quality" of a #backlink. But that's a post for another day 🫣

I did a check the other day and realised that more than half of the active Shopify projects we are working on at the moment are using Shopify B2B in some shape or form. I put this list together of all the different tools within the platform that we're using to set up successful B2B platforms. If this list doesn't show how good Shopify has become at managing all kinds of B2B requirements, nothing will: OOTB functionality - There's so much you can do without writing a line of code. Configuration > Customisation. Trade B2B theme - Ties in beautifully to all the under the hood capabilities of managing price lists, tiered pricing, thresholds etc. Contextualised publishing - Create different experiences for B2B and B2C customers all within the theme editor. APIs - Almost every B2B function in Shopify has a matching API to allow integrations to be automated. Shopify Flow - As per the APIs, so much business logic can be handled in here. App ecosystem - Still not heaps of B2B specific apps out there, but the opportunities for developers are massive and there will be lots of amazing apps with B2B specific functionality coming, I'm sure. ERP connectors - We're starting to see some of the big ERP native integrations add B2B modules to their middleware. Deposits at checkout - These types of improvements appear to be dropping every couple of weeks, solving different nuances of B2B operations. Hydrogen & Oxygen - Storefronts with truly custom requirements can spin up B2B headless storefronts in Shopify. Great option particularly if you have multiple storefronts. Last week at Substrakt we launched our first Cultural Website Performance Benchmark Report (which you can download via the link in the comments). We looked at the 2023 website traffic data for 76 cultural websites (encompassing over 110 million user sessions). I am doing a couple of webinars over the next two Wednesdays (tomorrow - Weds 8th May at 2pm BST, and next week - Weds 15th May at 11.30am ET / 8.30am PT) to walk through the background to the report, and some of our main findings. However mobile conversion rates are on average 68% lower than desktop traffic. - Cultural homepages are the entry point for just 16% of traffic to cultural websites. - Traffic from email converts at a higher rate than any other source. - Basket abandonment rates on cultural websites are 52% better than other ecommerce sites. - The average value of mobile donations increased by over 70% in 2023. - 'Engagement rates' for cultural websites are 40% lower than other sectors.
