After listening to Mark Smith awesome podcast on Enterprise and Solution Architecture roles ( https://lnkd.in/ek7aJBBD ), thought I’d share this. Bridging that gap and gap in knowledge of Microsoft’s frameworks I think is key for organisations that require that assurance of an EA framework, and how that aligns with Microsoft’s incredibly versatile ecosystem. For example, here’s the Power Platform Well -Architected Framework.

Life is full of staging posts. Points of reference you can look back on in the years to come. Each marking a point around which other things revolve. And evolve. As I watched my youngest leave this morning for her last day at primary school, I knew another staging post was laid. As I swallowed down the lump, and choked back the tears, I knew this one would leave more of a mark than others. These staging posts relate equally to work. The first tender you win ... the first project you set live ... your first board presentation ... promotions ... interviews ... role changes ... Each leaving an indelible mark. Equally, each is a lesson. A learning that helps shape future interactions. When HSO introduced the Government Accelerator to South Gloucestershire Council, it set the stage for future contact management engagements. FOIs, SARs, complaint handling, response management all from a single platform. It's a game changer for Local Authorities. And another staging post. The solution is the first of its kind. And this was its first delivery. The recent signing of the 8th council wasn't a staging post itself ... But it was affirmation that from nothing we have create quite something. Some time ago, back in NHS days, I used to manually download my Fitbit running & fitness data, and put it on a PBI dashboard; basic stuff really. Soon I'm going to do the same, but via an API, and also create some fancy ML predictions off the back of it. Thought for the day - to eiPaaS or not to eiPaas, that is the question! When considering integration across your organisation, Azure has all the components necessary to build out an (Enterprise) Integration Platform (as a Service) that has similar functionality to other pre-built offerings on the market. If you have the skills and resource it gives you an opportunity to add the features you love, ditch those you hate and fine tune to keep everything cost effective. Add some governance, a (Product) team to manage it and away you go! However, is mimicking other platforms (past and present) and the approach to Integration that this lends itself to, the right way to go about things? Does using Azure present new opportunities and approaches to integration? Distribute things more, remove the bottlenecks of having a specialist Integration Service within an organisation? Keep it all light and breezy?! To be transparent, in most cases, I favour the eiPaaS approach. Mostly because that's my background but also notwithstanding all the challenges this approach can present, integration is a specialist skill. In complex organisational landscapes (both process and application, landscapes with "Off the shelf" applications as well as bespoke) having a team whose sole job is to think about integration (strategically as well as technically) frees up other Products/Services/Applications to focus on functionality that adds value rather than the nuances of all the applications they may need to connect to.  But what do I know?! What do you think fellow integrators? 😁 I realise, in reality it is a lot more nuanced than I describe above! Organisations, applications, products, resources, skills and integration scenarios all vary greatly.  Fellow Product People, what do you think? Whatever is most effective in delivering value for your users/consumers, right?! Woke up to some wisdom from David Wyatt LowCode shouldn't be just thought of empowering non IT people to make IT solutions, but making IT people more productive. If LowCode was in the building industry it would be a version of Lego, suddenly anyone can click bricks together. But building a house isn't just the skills of a bricklayer/plumber/election. You still need a architect to design it, civil engineer to make sure it's built to last, and a building inspector to make sure it's built to standards. You also need planning permission, register it with Electricity/Water/Gas companies, you even have to register with postal services so you get your mail. Check the blog to see more.
