The biotech industry is currently navigating a "hangover period" following the unprecedented enthusiasm and financial investment seen in 2020-2021. The boom during these years was fueled by transformational innovations like gene therapy and CRISPR, leading to inflated venture financing. Now, the industry is experiencing a correction, marked by consolidation, selective investment, and increased M&A activity, especially as Big Pharma looks to acquire promising assets to address patent cliffs. Despite the challenges, there are positive signs for the future. Venture capital round sizes have reached a 15-year high in 2024, and biotech IPOs, though slower than expected, are raising substantial funds. The industry is likely to see a phased recovery, with short-term stabilization expected in the next six months and a more robust resurgence by 2025, potentially ushering in a "Biotech 3.0 Era" driven by AI and a focus on chronic diseases. Given the current focus on selective investment, how should early-stage biotech companies position themselves to attract funding and survive in this evolving market?
