The job market is seeing more fixed-term contracts as companies adapt. Some candidates are showing flexibility, but it will be interesting to see if businesses can retain this talent as the market shifts. The top four most advertised tech roles across the UK are: 1-DevOps Engineers (unsurprisingly a top demand, as we at Big Red know well) 2-Senior Engineers 3-Java Developers 4-Data Engineers Key Benefits: Interestingly, “fully remote” work has shifted down the priority list for tech professionals. As demand rises, so too with the rates of pay and the difficulty levels of attracting and securing the right talent. If, however, your company is slowing down - beware! If your IT staff start to feel insecure, talent competitors and recruiters will find it very easy to persuade your staff to interview elsewhere. Despite the stress and negativity that may exist, take the time to focus on reassuring your team and, where appropriate, reward their loyalty. It's a false economy to avoid salary increases for your best people. Doing so risks leave yourself vulnerable to losing key staff and the larger costs in both time and money of replacing them. Quick tip for consultants on the market for a new role 📊 Track your applications & don't spam apply to hundreds of jobs, especially if they're not relevant Create a system THAT WORKS FOR YOU My recommendation would be to create an excel sheet to track, put down company names, key people of interest in the business (direct hiring manager or TA), date of application, connect in with them on LinkedIn & leave a note when connecting. This will allow you to recap each week on where you applied to & follow up with those who connect in with you on LinkedIn ✔ Be strategic in your approach ♟ Every job application is littered with applications that clearly haven't read past the job title. Try think outside the box, don't spray and pray ❌ Do what others probably are not doing & the results will come ✔

According to the latest ONS data, 20% of businesses reported worker shortages in September. Demand is reflected in the Firefish Software recruitment agency data in Q3, showing the strongest quarter of 2024 despite a challenging August. Positive stories across the board📈. TL;DR🚀: - Total volume of placements increased by 3%. - Jobs created increased by 5%. - Temporary & contract placements increased by 3%. - Permanent placements decreased by 6%. Sector Insights📖: - Technology placements were up 24% in perm and 35% in temp/contract. - Revenue per Recruiter increased by 106% on the previous month. - Engineering perm placements increased by 13% and 39% in temp/contract.
