Green energy company ScottishPower Renewables has confirmed #Lowestoft as the long-term home and heart of its UK #offshorewind operations with the acquisition of a new site in the town’s PowerPark – expanding its existing footprint in the town. Charlie Jordan, CEO of ScottishPower Renewables (SPR), said: “Our continued commitment and investment in Lowestoft highlights the town’s role as a powerhouse for the #cleanenergy industry within the East of England region and we’re here to stay.” Ross Ovens, SPR’s Managing Director for Offshore Development and Operations, added: “It’s really exciting that, six years after we put a spade in the ground and built our EA ONE base in Lowestoft, we’re now increasing our footprint, presence and investment in the town. The UK's newly elected labour government requires major technology & skills advancements to achieve ambitious green targets! Two particularly standout pledges have been Labour’s commitment to create an additional 650,000 new jobs through green investment plans and its intention to increase our 2030 offshore wind target from 50 to 60GW. However, issues such as technology advancements & labour has combined with other problems such as supply chain costs and manufacturing shortages to put the 50GW by 2030 target at risk. We have taken enforcement action against ScottishPower Energy Retail Ltd, after the supplier mistakenly overcharged direct debit customers a higher rate, which should only apply to those who pay by standard credit. Customers who were impacted by the issue have received a combined sum of £250,000 in direct reimbursements plus an additional £250,000 in goodwill payments from ScottishPower. These payments were issued automatically, requiring no action on the part of the customers. In addition, ScottishPower has committed to contributing £1 million to Ofgem's Energy Redress Scheme, which supports charities and community initiatives aimed at providing energy-related assistance to vulnerable customers. As a direct outcome of our compliance and enforcement efforts, energy companies issued over £72 million in customer refunds, compensation, and contributions to the Energy Redress Scheme last year. Here's the latest: 🌱 Whitehill (200 MW) – Approved in North Lanarkshire, ILI Group project will provide grid-balancing services to maximize Scotland’s renewable energy potential. This lifts ILI's portfolio to 1.21 GW of consented capacity. 🌳 Tealing (100 MW) – Near Dundee, Apatura’s lithium-ion project includes biodiversity enhancements with tree and wildflower planting. It will boost local economies and create jobs during construction and operation phases. ☀️ Loch Fergus Solar + BESS (85 MW) – South Ayrshire’s 57 GWh clean energy project by Aukera Energy and Locogen will power ~13,600 homes while preventing 19,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. 🔋 On 1 October, the new National Energy System Operator will officially launch, seeing in a new era for Britain's energy system. 🤝 The government has struck an agreement with National Grid, leading to National Grid ESO  being transferred into public ownership, paving the way for the establishment of the new 'NESO'. 🔌 NESO will fill a gap where no single body is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning and design of the electricity and gas networks. #netzero #energytransition #renewableenergy #neso #energyplanning

Did you know on April 6, that Harmony Energy Income Trust plc and Harmony Energy operated the top-3 performing batteries in GB?🔋🔋🔋   April has already highlighted the vital role that battery storage is playing in helping decarbonise the GB power network, which in turn helps the environment. But why was April 6 such a successful day for these three sites: - Broadditch (HEIT) - Bumpers 2 (HEIT) - Clay Tye (Harmony Energy in JV with Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV)) According to a recent report from Modo Energy, the key drivers were:   1️⃣ - Wind and Solar Generation: A surge in wind and solar power, along with a nuclear station back in operation, pushed prices down in April, resulting in negative pricing. 2️⃣ - Revenue Opportunities: Batteries flourished as the negative prices led to higher daily wholesale price spreads, contributing to a 66% increase in revenues compared to March. 3️⃣ - Location: All three battery energy storage sites are located in the southeast of England, which, due to high demand, saw them provide generation offers, while those in Scotland focused on demand bids. 💡 UK Power Networks is pledging £1m to boost community energy groups' Net Zero efforts! 🌍 Partnering with Community Energy South, the funding aims to support up to 20 organisations, reach 20,000 people and fund local employment opportunities within their communities, such as the role of Energy Champions. 🏠 Energy champions will get bespoke training to provide crucial energy saving advice to ensure nobody is left behind on the journey to Net Zero. 🌳 This partnership will be crucial in ensuring the right support is established in the right places across London, the South East and East of England. SSE plc has broken ground on it's new Aberarder #OnshoreWindFarm in the Scottish highlands near Strathnairn with a projected production of roughly 50MW across 12 turbines installed by Vestas. Reporting on the rapid-paced new development, approved only 3 months ago, @Energy Live News highlights that the £100m project should be completed as early as late 2026 and will generate enough power for roughly 60,000 homes while also reducing #CarbonEmissions by an estimated 30,000 tonnes in it's first year of operation. It joins the existing #DunmaglassWindFarm in the area, almost 700 metres above sea level. Solar & Storage Live 2024 Birmingham kicked off today with an opening keynote from our Chief Executive Chris Hewett highlighting the UK's transition to renewable energy, with the last coal power stations set to close next week. Renewables, particularly wind and solar, are scaling up, aiming for 70GW by 2035 and potentially tripling solar capacity. The discussion emphasised the need for 30GW of energy storage by 2030. California's success with renewable energy was cited, showing it's possible to achieve a renewables-only power system. The UK government is committed to solar and storage, with plans to invest in clean energy projects and reform planning to support rapid solar deployment.
