Important we keep a balance across our economy and these figures show just how pivotal manufacturing still is to our economy overall, with the sector employing 7.3M people. 🕴️UK Manufacturing supports 7.3M Jobs and 23% of our entire GDP 👨‍🔬`Making things` accounts for 34% of all UK exports 💷 Median wage in manufacturing is 11% above national average Its great to see companies reshoring work and as a result the sector supporting more and more jobs. 🌟 A special visit at AMS! 🌟 Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Emma Goodson CEng CMgr MNucl MCMI to our offices, following her recent trip to HPC as part of a SZC delegation. Emma, who has been a key part of our journey, worked closely with our founder Wes Harford back in the early 2000s when AMS was still in its infancy. During that time, Emma’s expertise and support were vital in helping us grow, particularly in the development of our radionuclide samplers. Wes, who has since retired, also joined us for the visit, and it was fantastic to see the two of them reminiscing about their early collaborations. Despite the years that have passed, it’s clear that their shared passion for working together—client and supplier—remains at the core of how we operate at AMS today. Finding optimal solutions, no matter how challenging, has always been at the heart of what we do. From our humble beginnings in Bridgwater, with just a handful of engineers working from modest facilities, to the nuclear-focused EC&I engineering company we are today, it’s been an incredible journey. And we couldn’t have done it without the support of people like Emma who helped us along the way. What are the challenges and opportunity right now in UK manufacturing ?

On behalf of the UK Engineering & Manufacturing sector I want a STRONG and influential VOICE in the Government. Recent surveys have shown that a significant majority, 87%, are dissatisfied with the level of Government support, as highlighted in the Crowe UK Manufacturing survey. Additionally, 72% believe that there is a lack of Government support for training, according to a survey conducted by Gareth Jones of In-Comm Training. These statistics underscore the pressing need for change. All businesses in this sector must UNITE with a single, powerful voice and a clear message: they deserve effective, experienced, passionate, and influential representation within the UK Government. They are seeking a champion who will advocate for them, fight for them, and develop an Industrial and Manufacturing Strategy and Plan for Prosperity that extends beyond short-term goals or political terms, ensuring a prosperous future for generations to come. Their aim is not to request more support, but rather better support – support that truly benefits businesses rather than simply acting as a delivery mechanism. To have their cause debated in Parliament and to make their plea heard, they need to gather 100,000 signatures. Bucks F1 supplier Alan Spargo Limited buys its first BRUDERER UK LTD - One name, a multitude of possibilities press 🏎️🤝 A specialist supplier to F1, automotive and aerospace sectors based in High Wycombe has purchased its first Bruderer press at the MACH 2024 manufacturing exhibition. Alan Spargo, which celebrates 50 years in business in 2025, bought the 40-tonne machine to provide its customers with the option to test tooling solutions at high speed before they go into production. The technology offers up to 1000 strokes per minute at precision accuracy and will support the High Wycombe firm’s desire to increase sales past the £3 million mark this year. Specialist tooling from Alan Spargo has been developed in just six weeks to run on the Telford-based company’s BSTL 350-88 high speed press, the first time it’s ever been run in the UK. The week has flown by since our visit to the House of Commons last week hosted by Adam Dance MP on behalf of Screwfix and Kingfisher PLC to celebrate Trade skills and industry and to discuss the skills shortage in the UK and the mismatch of the current Government priority of national renewal and growth, challenges to taking apprentices onboard, barriers to young people in not being offered the option of a trade at school and incomplete pathways for them to follow and small business to be supported bring young people onboard. UK manufacturing sector rebounds in May Great news for the UK manufacturing sector which showed significant growth in May, boosting business confidence and signalling a strong post-pandemic recovery. This uptick could lead to sustained growth in the coming quarters. “This is really positive news for UK manufacturing and adjacent sectors which rely on UK manufacturing for their own success. The UK’s manufacturing sector is having a far greater impact on the UK economy than first thought, according to a major new report released today. Set to be launched at MACH 2024 in Birmingham, ‘The True Impact of UK Manufacturing’ report shows that the manufacturing industry is worth £518bn and supports 7.3 million UK jobs directly and across the supply chains/communities it operates in.
