How are we meant to trust the word of people who perform untrustworthy actions? My first thought was that’s a big fine. Then I thought the fine meds to be large enough for people who are too arrogant to take the exam seriously. If they can’t pass the exam without cheating that’s a different issue. When the untrustworthy people are at the top of the organisation it means that behaviour will have filtered down. We are increasingly seeing people at the top not living up to that responsibility. This is across a number of sectors including MPs on all sides, the police, the Post Office and many other organisations. £120k is a lot of money, even for an MD of a big 4 accountancy firm, but is it enough to correct behaviour? Is there an instance where biscuits 🍪 wholly covered with chocolate can be sold without charging any VAT? 🤔 Of course there is 😀 this is #VAT, there’s always an exception! If, in a supply of a packet or tin of assorted biscuits, the weight of standard-rated chocolate biscuits does not exceed 15% of the total net weight, the whole packet or tin can be sold VAT free! This effectively overrides the general rule prescribing that assortments containing both standard-rated and zero-rated items are treated as mixed supplies for VAT purposes and the #tax value of each part of the mixture must be worked out in order to calculate the VAT due

I'm so over being told "as a Director you should / shouldn't.." As a trainee accountant and then latterly as a senior professional, I've often encountered expectations about how I should behave based on my title. However, true leadership is not about fitting into a mould; it's about authenticity and embracing your unique style. Don't be afraid to challenge conventional norms and bring your own perspective to the table. Remember, it's ok to break the traditional expectations; stay true to yourself and pave your own path. 'Finance For Non-Finance' 🧐 Today, I led a "Finance for Non-Finance" training session at Salt Separation Services Limited, part of a series that I am implementing across the company. These sessions are designed to provide an overview of finance, both as a department and its function within the SSS business. As a group, we explore the structure of each of the company's revenue streams, being New Plant, Aftersales, and Service. I explain how we generate profit, and we discuss how each person plays a vital role in driving overall performance. In addition to enhancing financial understanding, I broke down some common finance jargon to make it less intimidating (and more interesting!). The workshops have been well-received, delivered in an informal and interactive format that our teams are engaging with enthusiastically! I firmly believe that businesses succeed when knowledge is shared across departments, fostering greater awareness and helping everyone understand how to collaborate more effectively. Not all yoghurts are equal before the UK VAT law Those which are designed to be eaten frozen are in fact subject to 20% VAT 😮 However, as usual, there is also the exception to the exception: frozen yoghurt which must be thawed completely before it can be eaten, and which has been frozen purely for storage or distribution, is zero-rated 😃 And any fruit, which is zero rated, coated with a zero rated yoghurt in the magical 🧙‍♂️ world of #VAT becomes…standard rated!
