Taking the time to learn new things, collaborate and share knowledge is so important - regardless of how “busy” we feel day to day. With that in mind, I took the opportunity to attend the Future of Utilities conference today and hear from experts discussing the critical issues facing the UK energy industry. From boosting renewable generation and the transition to net zero, to leveraging data and optimising the customer journey. There was so much to digest and consider. Also, great to see my colleague Ritika Wattan representing SSE on the big stage and discussing our growth in low carbon solutions, energy flexibility and digitisation, and overall shift towards being an energy solutions company and trusted energy advisor for our customers. #FoUSummit24

💡 Are Loyalty Programs Worth the Investment? When I worked at O2 UK and across other telco brands—both challenger and market leaders—one thing became crystal clear: customer insight is everything. 🕵️‍♀️ Any successful initiative, especially loyalty programs, started with a deep understanding of what customers actually wanted. Without that, even the best ideas could fall flat. Loyalty programs can deliver incredible value when done right: 🔑 Cut acquisition costs: It’s 5-7x cheaper to keep an existing customer than to find a new one. A great loyalty program can build stronger relationships and drive repeat purchases. 📈 Boost CLV: Rewarding loyalty isn’t just a “nice to have”; it can significantly increase a customer’s lifetime value, driving long-term profitability. 🎁 Elevate the experience: Personalised rewards and thoughtful perks make customers feel seen, appreciated, and less likely to churn. But let’s be honest, they’re not without their challenges: 💰 The upfront investment: Setting up the tech, sourcing rewards, and building a strategy that actually resonates with your customers isn’t cheap. 🔄 The need for constant evolution: Loyalty programs are not “set it and forget it.” Customers’ needs change, and so must your program if it’s going to stay relevant. I believe a loyalty program is only worth it if it creates genuine value for your customers. 💡 Gimmicks don’t work; insights do. When I was at O2, we always asked our customers directly what mattered to them before launching anything. 🗣️ It saved time, resources, and ensured we developed something meaningful. 👋 What’s your take? Accelerated change on the cards for intensive energy users in 2024 - From government plans to unlock access to grid connections to updates on support for major energy users, the focus on driving efficiency and supporting decarbonisation is set to continue in 2024. In this article, Jodie Eaton, CEO of Shell Energy UK, digs deeper into what’s ahead and considers how major energy users can take advantage of the opportunities available. For many major energy users rising costs and pressing decarbonisation targets mean that energy is already firmly on the boardroom agenda. Recent research from Shell Energy(1) found that two of the top five strategic priorities for UK businesses are related to decarbonisation – considered more important than other critical issues such as financial stability and retaining employees. It is now nearly two years since it became mandatory for more than 1,300 of the largest UK registered businesses to disclose climate related financial information, aligned with the UK government’s drive to reach net zero by 2050(2). I'm proud of the strides we've made with our latest Climate Transition Plan (CTP). Our CTP document summarises really clearly the different buckets of our emissions, the progress we have made, and our plans for dealing with each one. We set out clearly the dependencies and trade-offs involved, including the policy and regulatory support needed. We have also aligned our plan with the newest Transition Plan Taskforce guidance. We are focused on delivering net zero whilst maintaining reliability and affordability. #ClimateLeadership #NetZero
