We provide outstanding, specialist, expert care and services to adults and children with life-limiting conditions.
About us
We’re a charitable hospice rooted in the North East. We provide outstanding, specialist and expert care to adults and children with life-limiting conditions. We strive to provide Quality time for everyone. We rely on the generosity of local businesses, individuals, groups and companies to enable us to care for local people, when they need us most. We need to raise over £14.5 million each year to be able to continue providing our services. Around £6m of this is provided by statutory authorities such as NHS and local councils to provide our charitable care services. The remaining £8.5 million needs to be raised through voluntary giving. We make no charge to the user for any of our services, ensuring hospice care is available to everyone. 🎄✨ A Christmas Star! ✨🎄 Eleanor has volunteered at our hospice for more than 14 years. She gives her time and talent to support both our Adult Inpatient Unit and our Fundraising team. Eleanor’s journey with us began after we cared for her husband, Alan, during his end-of-life care in 2008. Since then, she has been a shining example of kindness and generosity. 💙 But Eleanor isn’t just a dedicated helper; she’s also a star baker and her delicious cakes and treats bring smiles to everyone here. Each year, she bakes and sells stunning Christmas cakes, with all profits donated to the hospice. Last year, her cakes raised over £2,000! 🎂🌟 Eleanor, thank you for your dedication and for keeping us all well-fed this festive season. You truly are a Christmas star! ✨ #StOswaldsHospice | #QualityTimeForEveryone | #OpenUpHospiceCare | #Christmas2024 | #ThankYou | #GivingBack | #HospiceVolunteering | #Volunteer | #ChristmasBaking

If you walked into our Chapel this week, you would have been greeted with a sea of festive activities and cheer 🎄 On Monday, we heard the sweet sounds of St Gabriel’s Nursery as they sang for us. It was lovely to welcome the nursery and hear some well-known Christmas carols and songs. Our Children and Young Adults enjoyed a sensory Christingle session on Tuesday, filled with music and joy. It was heart-warming to see how much everyone enjoyed it. Check out some of the gorgeous pics! Thursday was also full of cheer as our Chaplain, Fiona Boyd, led a lively Christmas sing-along. With bells jingling, tambourines tapping, and triangles chiming, the audience jumped right into the festive spirit. A big thanks to The Salvation Army International who made it all the more special! 🥰 Fiona Boyd, our Chaplain, reflected on the week: “It’s been such a joy to celebrate this special time of year. The activities have brought so much warmth and happiness, giving everyone a chance to create lasting memories with their loved ones.” #StOswaldsHospice | #QualityTimeForEveryone | #OpenUpHospiceCare | #MakingMemories

Earlier this month, families from our Children and Young Adults Service, along with families who come to us for Bereavement Support, were treated to a truly magical evening at The Alnwick Garden Light Trail ✨ It was a night to remember as they strolled through the glowing gardens, creating special memories and enjoying precious time together 🥰 Aimie, who comes to us for Bereavement Support, visited the trail with her two children, Finley and Matilda. Talking about the experience, she said: "We’d just like to say a huge thank you to St Oswald’s Hospice for organising the tickets to the light trail. The Alnwick Garden is a very special place for my family as we have a memorial bench for my husband in the cherry orchard. It was such a peaceful and comforting experience – and we are so grateful." Kate, mum of Niamh, who attends our Children and Young Adults Service, said: "We all had such an amazing time. Niamh was so alert and really took it all in, which is surprising since she usually likes to be in bed by 6pm! It was so lovely to see her enjoying herself – and we are all so thankful for the opportunity." A heartfelt thank you goes to Worldpay for their generous donation of tickets, which made this unforgettable experience possible. #StOswaldsHospice | #QualityTimeForEveryone | #OpenUpHospiceCare | #AlnwickGardenLightTrail | #MakingMemories | #WorldPay
