🏎️ In case you missed it 🏎️ Formula 1 had it's end of season finale at the weekend in Abu Dhabi with McLaren winning their first constructor's championship since 1998 and Lewis Hamilton moving on from Mercedes after 12 years. Amongst all of these narratives however, in the build up to the weekend's action, the FIA has proposed significant and contentious changes to its governance which would replace its senate and ensure that all ethics complaints are handled by just the FIA president and senate president. The FIA president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, has had multiple controversial moments since taking office and this raises serious questions around conflicts of interest and oversight and the FIA are not providing further details. Furthermore, the audit committee's power would be significantly reduced after two members of the audit committee and the compliance officer have been sacked in the past 6 months. These powers have been moved to the senate president. These changes have come as a reaction to heightened scrutiny on the controversial FIA president and from a governance perspective, it's disappointing to see an organisation with the prominence of the FIA trying to ring-fence it's president from accountability as opposed to embracing the opportunity to improve it's governance processes to better hold prominent stakeholders to account. This week is Safeguarding Adults Week. Each day this week we will be focusing on a different theme. Today we're exploring the role that professional curiosity can play in safeguarding. Effective safeguarding starts with a conversation. This means taking interest in a person, while at the same time observing, listening, and asking questions to ensure we get the fullest possible picture of the situation. This helps us to test or challenge our working assumptions. Professional curiosity means looking beyond the information that is immediately available to us to dig deeper into the grey areas. It means we explore the areas where we might have doubts, to find some clarity. Sometimes, the things that people are not saying or doing can trigger this professional curiosity.
