  • With annual police Christmas drink and drug driving campaigns underway, new research shows there is progress in shifting collision reporting language, but highlights that there is still plenty of room for improvement. The analysis, conducted by journalist Laura Laker and funded by the Foundation for Integrated Transport, assessed 227 press releases from 45 police forces and found that the use of the word “accident” is now rare, appearing just eight times. However, the report highlights a persistent tendency to refer to vehicles, rather than drivers, as active participants in collisions. This language, seen in 70% of police press releases, frames vehicles as autonomous agents – examples include phrases like “the vehicle attempted to drive the wrong way” – and can divert attention from the role of driver behaviour. Peter wanted to live life all the time and to have fun. He was so always in the moment. When he was tragically killed for Lucy Harrison it was a trigger for change. "I realised that this was the best way to honour him. I am a bereaved sister. I grew through my loss, became kinder, got perspective and realised how fragile life is'. "Don't ever take your relationships for granted. Don't fall out over silly things." is her parting message. Lucy is winner of the Mansoor Chaudry Award 2024 for outstanding contribution to RoadPeace. https://lnkd.in/dvaAS3QF #roadpeace #siblingloss #grief #trauma.

  • Road deaths are not normal deaths. They are sudden and unnatural and families rarely have a chance to say goodbye. RoadPeace understands the importance of remembering family and friends who have died and we encourage remembrance in a number of different ways. We have several different events over the course of the year which are an opportunity for families to get together and remember, as well as resources and roadside memorials. RoadPeace members are also sent a card on the anniversary of their loved one’s death. See our website for information about: * Roadside memorials * Remembrance events * Remembrance resources * World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims * August National Road Victim Month * The RoadPeace Wood * Liverpool Ceremony of Remembrance

"Losing a child to an avoidable crash is an indescribable pain." Crystal Owen's son Harvey was just 17 when he was killed in Wales. The car he was a passenger in was being driven by a college friend, who was a newly qualified driver. The car left the road on a bend and ended up in a water-filled ditch, causing all four teenagers inside to drown. Please sign Crystal Owen's petition in support of Graduated Driver Licensing.
