This month we were delighted to have successfully completed the first gynaecological procedure using the cutting-edge da Vinci Xi surgical system at  Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital and Cancer Centre London. The system, which uses robotic-assisted technology, enabled our Gynaecology Consultant, Professor Jayanta Chatterjee (pictured third from left), to perform an extrafascial hysterectomy. As well as being able to treat a number of female health conditions, the da Vinci Xi robot is also used for a wide range of complex health issues and offers enhanced precision, improved patient comfort and reduced recovery times to help more patients get the treatment they need. Well done to Professor Chatterjee and the team at our Wimbledon Parkside Hospital!

The healthcare industry has a substantial environmental impact, with 90% of medical device waste coming from single-use items. DHSC’s recent Design for Life report signals an important shift from these products, and we are proud to be taking steps towards this through trials at several sites: 🏥 Remanufactured harmonic scalpels at Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital. 🏥 Reusable laryngoscope handles at Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital. 🏥 A widespread trial of reusable tourniquets, which can be used up to 10,000 times. "At Nuffield Health we're committed to reducing single use products, so it’s been great to see the enthusiasm of our colleagues, at our sites, who have been trialling reusable devices. Behaviour change is fundamental to delivering a circular economy and we need to shift our thinking, habits and practices to ensure change happens." - Head of Sustainability, Vicky Hadley.

Eyes feeling tired from working at home? You’re not alone! With remote working now normal life for many of us, we spend long hours on computers - sometimes with less-than-optimal home office setups.   According to our GP Dr. Rashmi Singh, prolonged screen time can increase eye strain, leading to tired eyes, headaches and even migraines. If this sounds familiar, read her top tips below and find out more about the optimal working from home setup here: https://lnkd.in/erG3kw_x   #WFH #RemoteWorking #WorkingFromHome #HybridWorking #ScreenTime

We’re incredibly proud to announce that our Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mark Bowditch has been elected as president of the British Orthopaedic Association. Mr Bowditch, who has practised at Nuffield Health Ipswich Hospital for over 20 years, said he is delighted and humbled to have been elected for the role and is “looking forward to representing and supporting fellow orthopaedic surgeons to deliver high standards of care.” Mr Bowditch has revealed that his presidential year’s theme is ‘preventing harm and transforming lives through orthopaedic care' during which he plans to shift the emphasis from treatment to prevention, something that he considers to be extremely important at a time when so many people are living with pain. We’d like to share our congratulations with Mr Bowditch and look forward to seeing the positive impact his plans will have on the nation’s health. #BuildingaHealthierNation #Orthopaedics #OurPeople #Healthcare

Today, on World Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Day, we recognise the essential contributions AHPs make in delivering safe, high-quality care. This year’s theme, Quality and Safety, emphasises the dedication of our AHPs in advancing healthcare excellence. From physiotherapists to radiographers, operating department practitioners, and biomedical scientists, AHPs are at the heart of achieving exceptional patient outcomes across our clinical settings. We’re proud to see our very own operating department practitioner apprentice, Ryen Spencer-Wolfe, featured in the IHPN’s AHP celebration today. His journey from the gym floor to the operating room is an inspiring reminder of the opportunities within healthcare, and the crucial role our AHPs play. #AHPsDay #QualityAndSafety #HealthcareExcellence

This Allied Health Professions (AHP) Day, we are shining a light on just a few of the thousands of incredible AHPs that work in independent healthcare. Ryen Spencer-Wolfe joined Nuffield Health back in 2016, originally working at one of their fitness and wellbeing centres. When gyms across the UK were shut during Covid, Ryen put himself forward to support at the local Nuffield Hospital, the Grosvenor Hospital in Chester, screening patients at the door. Having enjoyed this experience, he decided to join the hospital team full time, and he was put forward for an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) Apprenticeship. This has opened up new opportunities to work in operating theatres and contribute to the clinical care of patients. He valued the support package the apprenticeship brings: earning while you learn, an organised placement, and always someone to answer questions and any issues along the way. He says: “I think you learn most about yourself when you’re under pressure. I was quite comfortable, and doing well, in my fitness role, but you start again from the ground up as an apprentice. And each step up is a challenge.” He also had to organise himself, finding a work/life/study balance, and also playing championship rugby. Ryen qualifies as an ODP in 2024, and is considering pathways with the guidance of the Charity’s Clinical Education team. His current aim is to pursue a surgical care practitioner role – a remarkable journey.

Last week we celebrated the opening of our two new operating theatres at our Nuffield Health Tees Hospital in Stockton on Tees. The two spacious theatres, which were built by Vanguard Healthcare Solutions, will provide best-in-class treatment for even more patients from the local community, helping to reduce the NHS waiting list and provide state of the art facilities for a wider range of vital surgical activities, including knee and hip replacements, spinal care, cataract surgery, hernia and thyroid treatment. These impressive facilities will be operated by a talented team who are focussed on delivering exceptional care. Orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Tony Nargol said: 'The opening of the new operating theatres marks a significant milestone in the 43-year history of the hospital. The new theatres not only improve our ability to care for more people, but they will also improve the overall patient experience, ensuring we deliver the best outcomes and reduced waiting times for surgery.” #healthcare #innovation #buildingahealthiernation
