We empower and celebrate refugees + migrants on their journey to integration by supporting them to run cookery classes.
About us
Migrateful helps refugees and asylum seekers on their journey to employment and independence and promotes integration. It runs cookery classes led by migrant chefs struggling to integrate and access employment due to legal and linguistic barriers. The cookery classes provide ideal conditions not just for learning English and building confidence, but also for promoting contact and cultural exchange with the wider community. We train our chefs through weekly workshops, taking them on a journey from “passionate home cook” to “confident cookery class teacher.” Sessions begin with English conversation or confidence building exercises. Participants then take turns teaching the rest of the group how to cook their traditional cuisine, before all sitting down together to share the meal they have prepared. Participants build connections and work on further developing their English. When our chefs feel ready, they deliver evening cookery classes to paying customers, supported by Migrateful. These paid classes take place in cafes, or customers can host a class in their own home for themselves and their friends. Each class lasts around three hours, with an average of ten paying participants per class. Since Migrateful was founded in July 2017, we have run over 200 cookery classes with 2,000 participants and now have 16 chefs from Iran, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Albania, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Ecuador and Cuba teaching their cuisines regularly.

We love to see everyone all smiles and getting stuck in! Lovely to meet the team – we hope to cook with you again soon 😊 💜
The Cero Procurement and Project Delivery Team recently spent the evening enjoying a cookery class with a difference! The team visited Migrateful, a charity that runs cookery classes taught by refugees and migrants. To date, Migrateful have welcomed over 40,000 people to attend almost 4,000 classes taught by 92 trained immigrant chefs. These classes are designed to celebrate and share culture, build a sense of belonging, increase employability and help share some incredible recipes with would-be chefs such as us! We had an incredible time cooking – and eating – as a team, and learnt some delicious new recipes from Turkmenistan. Huge thank you to our chef, Guncha, who brought her expertise, patience and humour to the evening!

Thank you to Migrateful for a fantastic cookery class yesterday! This charity does wonderful work by employing refugees to deliver enlightening cookery classes, as well as to provide them with training and skills development to enable them to integrate into the UK employment market. The team and I had a great time learning to cook some Palestinian dishes with our chef Amna.

Looks fantastic – well done to you all 🤩 👏 So pleased you enjoyed Meriam's class!
Most of entitledto has been on a team social this afternoon. Our cooking skills were tested as we created a six course meal to share at the wonderful Migrateful cookery school in London. Even if we do say so ourselves, the food was delicious, mostly thanks to our teacher Meriam and all the staff at Migrateful. Such a super, social way to end the week!

Next week, our Founder and co-CEO Jess Thompson will be joining a panel and Q&A session hosted by Appleby Blue Almshouse United St Saviour's Charity to explore the role that food plays in bridging divides between communities and fostering an inclusive and welcoming society for all: https://lnkd.in/gZarPTrU The unifying power of food is at the heart of Migrateful's mission and we're particularly excited to be taking part in this conversation at Appleby Blue's, where we regularly hold some of our cookery classes! 💜 🧅

We love a good event at Migrateful – and with 4,534 (and counting!) under our belt, we like to think we know a thing or two about how to pull together a successful soirée. We also know we wouldn't be able to do it without our Migrateful community of chefs, facilitators, volunteers, mentors, and supporters who help make the magic happen ✨ As we hurtle towards the party season, we've called upon them to share their top tips for putting on the perfect event – read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/edgNEZZU And if you’re yet to book your end-of-year team festivities, we’ve got you covered with our private cookery experiences, which run in London, Bristol and online. Enjoy a group cooking, dining and social experience where you'll learn authentic recipes and hear cultural insights and stories from a Migrateful chef of your choice 👩🍳 💜 Our classes and demos also give our cookery class teachers an opportunity to build on linguistic and interpersonal skills, expand their network, and access work opportunities. 🎉 Celebrating Black History Month: Black voices on the triumph of migration and multiculturalism in British life & art 🎉 Today we marked Black History Month 2024 in Ogilvy UK with a fascinating panel discussion, celebrating the positive impact of migration on the UK. In response to the race riots earlier this year, we wanted to reclaim the narrative and shine a light on how the contributions of migrants have shaped our society, culture, and communities for the better. I'm so thankful to our speakers Vickie Wambura and Gaynor Tutani for their presence on our panel this morning, and for sharing their knowledge, experience and expertise with us so generously. Vickie is co-CEO of Migrateful, a fantastic charity empowering and integrating refugees and migrants through the shared love of food. Migrateful's cookery classes offer a unique platform for cultural exchange and connection - I can recommend their classes first hand - such an incredible experience. Learn more about their work at https://lnkd.in/dPgwGyZq Gaynor Tutani is a Creator, Producer and Writer, who goes by the creative name Art Adlib. She co-founded EARTHworks [Artists], specialising in 'Process in Practice' - embedded in decoloniality, aiming to challenge systems of power through collaborative work and programming. She is also Creative Programming Officer at Museum of the Home; her work there focuses on creating engaging and thought-provoking programs that explore the complexities of home and identity. https://lnkd.in/dBkCv3rr I have a whole cast of people to thank within Ogilvy UK for helping make this event such a success... Thank you so much Quinn Zaffre - exec sponsor of our cross-cultural ERG, Roots - for moderating the panel this morning with such poise and perceptiveness. Fatima M. for your insight and advice throughout, for being instrumental in our choice of speakers, and for the eloquent and engaging intro you delivered at the event today - thank you. Thank you Saasha Akighir for your inimitable design – your strong visual really helped amplify the event within the agency. Thanks to Matt Foster🇵🇭🇬🇧🏳️🌈 for curating such a brilliant and balanced conversation. Thanks to Chanelle Olaleye for helping with all event logistics and ensuring we had a great array of black owned businesses as our suppliers, and BIG shout outs to Uncle John's Bakery & TOTTENHAM TOWN BAKERY LTD for the amazing catering - it went down a storm! & lastly, big thanks to Jodene Robinson and Mabinty Taylor-Kamara whose idea this was in the first place. You guys are real agents for change, and your vision helped shift the narrative around immigration and multiculturalism - thank you. #BlackHistoryMonth #MulticulturalBritain #Migration #Diversity #Community #PanelDiscussion #BreakfastEvent #Migrateful #MuseumOfTheHome

Thank you - to the women in the Political Risk and Credit market who joined us for dinner - and to Chef Yasemin and Migrateful, for a wonderful evening. We learnt to wrap vine leaves, make dumplings and pumpkin for pudding! Migrateful is a charity that helps migrants on their journey to employment and integration. Harnessing the power of food, they bridge divides and foster unity. Inspiring stuff! #Politicalrisk #insuranceclaims #womenininsurance

✨ Want to Make a Real Impact This Christmas Season? ✨ I recently had the incredible opportunity to volunteer with Migrateful, an organization that empowers refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants through cooking classes. 🌍🍴 It was such a rewarding experience . Not only did I get to assist these amazing chefs while they shared their culture and food, but I also learned so much about their inspiring journeys and resilience. With Christmas just around the corner, it’s a perfect time to reflect on how we can all contribute a little good - whether it’s volunteering, donating, or simply offering help to someone in need. Small acts but big difference 💙 If you're looking for a way to give back and learn more about other cultures, I can’t recommend Migrateful enough. 🙏 #Volunteering #GivingBack #ChristmasSpirit
