I wrote a copywriting book, but I’m weird.
I called it “The Social Copywriting Bible”.
Here’s the 13 year story behind why:
Now, I know what you might be thinking…
"Why the hell is it called The Social Copywriting Bible...? Isn't that a bit...preachy/religious/Jesus-y."
Well yes, it kind of is.
But I didn't name it from a place of being preachy/religious/Jesus-y.
I named it that because 13 years ago I started my first office job. 8 figure/year company, massive in the UK among over 60s selling plants and seeds in the post.
(I was 17 at the time so I didn’t have a clue who they were)
My first proper job: answering phones on customer service.
But after 6 months, my boss saw I was quick at taking orders.
Speed = more orders in a day.
More orders in a day = more revenue per day.
I was good, so they offered me a job in marketing.
That’s where I started enjoying:
- Analysing data
- Making money
- Selling things
My new boss was brilliant and someone I saw as a mentor for several years and has had a huge impact on how I run my own business today.
The company’s bread and butter was catalogues.
(believe it or not, the website was still an up and coming revenue channel lol i feel old)
But we had another revenue channel:
Newspaper ads.
We spent a lot of money every month on space in national newspapers with 600k+ daily print circulations.
And these ad spaces were great for:
- Brand awareness
- Revenue driving
- Clearing surplus stock
It was a business in itself.
Here’s the funny thing though:
We ran it all using ONE excel sheet.
ONE excel sheet with:
- Publication names
- Available dates
- Space free
- Ad cost
The name of that excel sheet?
The Bible.
It guided everything we did and was a constant reference point. We used it every day. And it was saved on our desktops.
Without it, we’d have been lost.
So, why call my book The Social Copywriting Bible?
That’s why.
Because when it comes to writing your social content and turning your social media account into a sales machine:
- You can use it as a reference point every day
- Bookmark, save and keep to guide you
- A daily source for writing, strategy, systems
