It was great to catch up with everyone at the UKspace Christmas Reception in beautiful Lancaster House, closing out a busy year. The BAE Systems Digital Intelligence Space team have had some great successes and faced the challenges together. Here’s hoping 2025 sees the UK drive forward it’s Space ambitions, and our new, integrated Space Business Unit will continue to support the sector ambitions. 英國在台辦事處、國家太空中心（Taiwan Space Agency－TASA）、台灣太空產業發展協會（TSIDA）以及台灣低軌衛星產業聯誼會（Taiwan LEO Satellite Industry Alliance, TLEOSIA）於12月3日在台灣太空國際年會期間，共同舉辦了「台英太空產業圓桌會議」，共有超過10家台灣與英國相關太空及衛星企業參與會議，討論台英策略結盟，促進台英產業合作契機。英國企業貝宜系統（BAE Systems）和 Eutelsat OneWeb 亦在這場會議進行專題分享。 貝宜系統太空任務規劃與專案負責人 Peter Stocken 指出，貝宜系統作為太空創新領域的領導者，擁有超過25年的專業經驗，它的Azalea™ 星座群是一個基於低地軌道聚落的系統，設計用於先進監測和情報蒐集。Azalea™ 星座群將編隊飛行、射頻傳輸和合成孔徑雷達共同感測技術，用於地理定位和多用途情報蒐集。它亦利用多種感測器監測地球表面、分析數據，並透過星際鏈路與機載處理，在全球任何地方實時傳遞結果情報。 Eutelsat OneWeb 亞太區域副總裁 Neha Idnani 強調與中華電信 Chunghwa Telecom 密切合作部署低軌衛星通訊網絡，Eutelsat OneWeb 對於在台灣將低軌衛星科技商業化也已準備就緒。該企業在會中也分享了多重軌道策略（低軌道加上地球靜止軌道）、強化台灣虛擬網絡能力，以及該企業NextGen的計畫。Eutelsat OneWeb 特別讚揚台灣的先進製造實力，支持台灣產業進入全球低軌供應鏈的可能性。

As a UK owned Space prime, we deliver space missions and data solutions for government customers. We are currently building BAE Systems Azalea(TM), a low Earth orbit cluster-based constellation that will use multiple sensors to monitor the Earth’s surface, analyse data, and deliver the resulting intelligence anywhere in the world. Each satellite cluster flies in formation, delivering precision geo-location through inter-satellite links and onboard processing. In 2024 TASA signed an MoU for Faraday Dragon, the world’s first UK led multi-agency Asia-Pacific satellite rideshare mission. TASA is committed to supplying indigenously developed components for inclusion on Faraday Dragon, contributing to the deepening of international and regional co-operation in the field of space exploration. BAE Systems is also harnessing our space science expertise to conduct an early ‘Phase A’ study for the ESA Plasma Observatory candidate mission which aims to develop spacecraft designs for a seven-satellite mission to study the energetic plasmas which envelop the Earth from the sun. Here in Surrey we are part of a thriving space sector across the Space South Central region. We see ourselves as a crucial part of it. We both support it, for example through our research and through the #SpaceCraft initiative, which is boosting space skills and helping SMEs to access facilities and reduce the barriers to entry. We also benefit from having so many space companies on our doorstep. Last week we were delighted to hear from Matthew Angling, a Visiting Professor here at the University of Surrey and CTO of In-Space Missions Limited, which was acquired by BAE Systems in 2021. Matt told us how BAE are planning to grow their space systems and integration business to become a major player in the field and explained the structure of the new space business unit. The unit incorporates In-Space Missions and is already working on a number of defence satellite projects. We talked about how our organisations can collaborate and look forward to working together. Collaboration with industry is a key component of our #space strategy. An example of this is our work with Thailand’s Space Research organisation, GISTDA, Geo-informatics and Space Technology Development Agency to support the development of Thailand’s next generation of #EarthObservation capabilities.
