A very warm welcome to our new HAY Chair Stefan Micevski MBA MIH. Stefan has worked in hospitality for over 13 years, having worked in London for almost 7 years before moving to York and moving up the career ladder to becoming General Manager at Elmbank York, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. He’s also a proud member of the Institute of Hospitality and has a master’s in business administration. Speaking about his new position as Chairman, Stefan said “I am absolutely delighted to be taking on the role as Chairman of HAY. The organisation has grown significantly over the last few years as a direct result of the drive and determination of Adam Wardale MIH IS, he’s created a strong and effective community of York General Managers who’ve had a profound positive impact, I’m excited and committed to building on his legacy. Hospitality is vital to the York economy and HAY is determined to continue supporting the city’s growth in tourism, retail and business sectors” #NewChair #Welcome #Hospitality

We're sad to say farewell to our Chair, Adam Wardale MIH IS, who has been in post for two and a half years. Last week was Adams' last meeting as HAY Chair as he prepares to leave his role at Middletons Hotel and step into a new position as Director of Hospitality at Middleton Hall Retirement Village in County Durham. Adam was voted in as Chair in the wake of the Covid pandemic when HAY had been meeting virtually and he gave HAY a new lease of life. Under Adam's leadership the association has gone from strength to strength: building and enhancing relationships with key stakeholders in the city, growing an engaged membership, championing and launching the first HAY Hospitality Awards, and leading on some amazing partnerships including the Hospitality Connect programme and the prison release on temporary licence scheme. On behalf of the executive committee and all of our HAY members, thank you Adam for your time and committment over the last two and a half years, you've certainly left your mark on not only HAY but also the city and you'll be greatly missed. We wish you all the best in your new role!

Our November meeting was hosted at Delta Hotels by Marriott York earlier in the week. Some really useful updates from our guest speakers: Camilla Woods from Hospitality Action told us about the range of support available to hospitality workers that might find themselves facing challenging times. Lisa Williams & Liz Smith-Mills FIH FBICSc from the UK Housekeepers Association - Yorkshire & North East shared details of the opportunities available to housekeepers for development, training and networking via their membership programme. Claire Foale from City of York Council, gave us an update on current and future city developments.
