I launched the Hamilton Commission in 2021 to figure out why there were so few people who looked like me in my sport and why it’s been that way my whole life. With the help of the Royal Academy of Engineering, we started answering those questions and created a report outlining what the barriers were for people like me. This charter is a result of the findings from that report. The impact this can have is massive and I thank the sport for taking on this commitment. For all the teams, Formula 1 and the FIA to recognise the need for diversity is an incredible sign of progress. Can’t wait to see and support all that comes from this. https://lnkd.in/gCtSK_c6

Formula 1 is delighted to announce the introduction of a formal Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) charter, which has been agreed by all ten teams, Formula 1 and the FIA – Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, and has been created with support from the Royal Academy of Engineering, which, alongside Sir Lewis Hamilton, delivered The Hamilton Commission’s original report in 2021. As part of Formula 1’s efforts to rationalise the race calendar and make it more sustainable we will be hosting the Canadian Grand Prix earlier than usual from 2026 on the third or fourth weekend of May each year. The move will allow the European leg of the season to be consolidated into one consecutive period over the European summer months and is planned to remove an additional transatlantic crossing by the Formula 1 community each year, with significant associated carbon reductions. Meet Nadim, who shares his journey from Sierra Leone to F1 staff writer, and how the Black Collective of Media in Sport (BCOMS) supported him in joining Formula 1 on an internship. Now in a permanent position, Nadim hasn’t looked back since his first experience at a circuit, when he attended the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2022.
