This role offers a unique chance to work on an interdisciplinary project entitled Satellite-Aided Technologies for advancing resilience - Guarding energy services under climate hazards, risks, and disasters (SAT-Guard). The project is led from the Department of Engineering, with the Durham Energy Institute and the Institute for Hazard and Risk Research as partners. 🔍 Key Responsibilities: To lead on the selection, design and implementation of case studies, in collaboration with the project partners.   To lead publications that report on the outcomes of case studies, contributing theoretical insights and development.   To work with colleagues in different disciplinary areas to devise new methods for managing post-hazard restoration that considers community interests.   🎓 Qualifications: A PhD (or be close to submission) in Social Anthropology or related discipline.   Outputs - experience, skills and/or achievements which demonstrate experience of or the potential to produce high quality outputs. 🌟 The DEI Energy Day 2024: Celebrating 15 Years of Innovation and Collaboration 🌟 We recently celebrated a significant milestone at the Durham Energy Institute (DEI) with our 15th anniversary event, bringing together a diverse group of experts, policymakers, and industry professionals to explore the forefront of energy research and discuss pathways to achieve Net Zero. Theme: “At Home with Energy” 🏡 This year’s theme focused on the crucial role of housing and communities in the energy transition. Domestic heating and cooking are significant contributors to the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, and the event addressed the complexities of transforming these practices across diverse households. Event Highlights: Homefront Heroes: Battling Carbon Explored the current landscape of domestic energy consumption and its environmental impact. Outlined innovative technologies and practices for home energy efficiency. Explained the socio-economic factors influencing the adoption of low-carbon solutions. Discussed policy frameworks and incentives supporting domestic decarbonisation. Highlighted the role of community initiatives in driving change, balancing comfort, affordability, and sustainability. Durham’s Homegrown Solutions: Fuelling Fair and Green Futures Showcased innovative approaches to energy challenges developed at Durham University. Experts from Engineering, Law, Computer Science, and Anthropology explored multidisciplinary solutions for a sustainable energy future. Discussed practical applications for homes and communities.
