On Tuesday and Wednesday this week the Dentaid team were providing essential dental care to people experiencing health inequalities in Liverpool alongside Asylum Link Merseyside. Every month our volunteer dentists provide dental services for refugee families experiencing poverty across the UK. At Dentaid HQ, our team is hard at work packing supplies for BrightBites, our oral health education programme for children. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, stickers, posters, and educational materials are boxed and shipped to BrightBites volunteers and educators across the UK. Today our fundraising manager Peter is at the Rotary International Showcase in Newcastle. The showcase is a three-day conference that shares developments in UK and international Rotary-funded projects, their strategy, and future direction. The Rotary are been a longstanding supporter of our work, particularly in helping us establish the DentaidBox for overseas dental outreach. They have also supported our BrightBites oral health education programme and provided funding for several UK clinics. Thank you for inviting us! Our oral health education program BrightBites has reached 30,000 children! 🦷✨ Throughout 2024, our incredible network of local volunteers and Dentaid oral health educators have been visiting schools, nurseries, and after-school clubs to teach kids the importance of taking care of their teeth. And we’re not stopping there! We’re on a mission to teach 90,000 school-aged children the importance of good oral health, so they can form good habits to keep their teeth and mouths healthy. This week we are in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 with Fishermen's Mission and Seafarers Hospital Society delivering dental care in Bangor, Aberystwyth, and Milford Haven. Dentaid The Dental Charity is a #charity providing dental care and oral health advice for vulnerable adults and children from underserved communities. They operate mobile dental units that offer outreach dental clinics for people who struggle to access NHS dentistry. It’s been a busy year for many of the Unum Dental team, who’ve been fundraising for this important charity. A huge thank you to Chloe Cook, Jessica Goodyear, Zara Hayward and Rebecca Gorard who walked the 12-mile Test Way. 🚶🚶♀️👣 Meanwhile, Jordan Charlton and Oscar Worsfold Unum braved a sponsored skydive! 🪂 Together, they’ve raised more than £1,800 for Dentaid so far this year. This is particularly important because November is #MouthCancerActionMonth, supported by the Mouth Cancer Foundation and the Oral Health Foundation. It’s a month dedicated to raising awareness of #MouthCancer. That includes the importance of dental examinations and the part they play in discovering it early, when it’s more treatable. But if people struggle to access affordable dental care, the risk is that the cancer will go undiscovered until later stages when it’s more difficult to treat. Dentaid plays a vital part in delivering routine examinations to underserved communities, but to provide this dental support, they rely on the generosity of fundraisers like our amazing #Dental team. #Fundraising #GivingBack #Dentaid #OralHealth

As our overseas trip to Cambodia draws to a close, we reflect on the incredible impact our team has made in just a short time. This week some of our volunteers have been in Cambodia providing care for adults and children in need, many of whom had never seen a dentist before. The volunteers set up a clinic, alongside local dentists, at Bayon High School near Siem Reap, treating an average of 60 patients a day. The high sugar content in the diets of people in the region has led to widespread tooth decay, with some children as young as three needing dental care. The team are also carrying out oral health education presentations to raise awareness about the dangers of sugar in the diet. Yesterday was our first ever clinic in Ealing, where we provided essential dental care to individuals experiencing homelessness. 🦷 Our team treated nine patients on our mobile dental unit in West London.
