Yesterday in Parliament, Policy Connect partnered with the Career Development Policy Group (CDPG) to host a roundtable on #CareersGuidance - examining its quality, availability, and role in driving economic and social change.     In a wide-ranging discussion that featured analysis from participants on the Government’s plans for careers guidance and potential policy reform, Lord Jim Knight and panellists considered how careers guidance can be funded and delivered effectively to tackle economic inactivity.   Thanks to all who attended and our excellent speakers, David Morgan (Career Development Institute), Dr. Alison Carter (Institute for Employment Studies), Dr Elnaz K. 💡 Do you have an interest in improving researchers’ careers? 💡 The Sustainable Careers for Researcher Empowerment (SECURE) project (SecureEU) have published the SECURE Consultation Survey on the Research Career Framework. 💡 The SECURE project is a European-wide initiative which develops new approaches to empower and support researchers and scientists on their career paths. The Careers Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC) Limited, which manages the Vitae programme, was commissioned to provide a ‘think piece’ for UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), specifically focusing on how career-related learning could be enhanced and better embedded within doctoral programmes. The think piece, ‘Embedding career learning into doctoral programmes’ has been published by CRAC and can be viewed in full here: https://lnkd.in/e2epwWqU UKRI have also published a blog post update about their activities in the year since the publication of the New Deal for Postgraduate Research. In the blog post, they highlighted that: "We also committed to working with CRAC-Vitae to review the current provision of careers learning for PGRs to identify how careers learning and skills development during PGR in the UK could be enhanced commissioning. (...) We hope this will spur further consideration in the sector about how we can ensure that PGR students have diverse and flexible career paths." Rachel Lambert-Forsyth is Chief Executive of the British Pharmacological Society (BPS) and Managing Director of BPS Assessment Ltd (BPSA).  Rachel commented: ‘I am delighted to join CRAC’s Board, as I am passionate about removing barriers to inclusion and championing the importance of building equitable spaces for everyone to achieve their potential in the workplace and beyond.’ Professor Roger Whitaker is the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Enterprise at Cardiff University, and Founder and Academic Director of Supercomputing Wales. CRAC to help The British Academy track researcher careers The British Academy and The Careers Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC) Limited, which manages Vitae, will undertake a study to track the career pathways of British Academy funded researchers, specifically those funded with a Postdoctoral Fellowship or British Academy Rising Star Engagement Award. The study is part of the British Academy’s wider programme to understand the impact of its funding in academia and society, and to inform development of future funding programmes.
