📢 LIVE NOW! The 2024 State of Cities Climate Finance Report 🏙️ Cities are at the heart of the climate transition, but they need significantly more investment to hit their climate targets. 🏙 CCFLA at #WUF12 CCFLA has wrapped up a successful week at the World Urban Forum 12 Egypt. With the CCFLA team participating in over 20 events and attending many more, we have left Cairo feeling energized and inspired by the incredible work that our members and partners are doing to accelerate urban climate finance. Some of the highlights from the week include: 💵 The 2024 State of Cities Climate Finance Report findings helped to set the scene for several important sessions on the need to scale urban climate finance. CCFLA, alongside PennIUR, BMZ, and BMWK, hosted an event on the ‘Road to Trillions,’ featuring an expert panel who shared their actionable strategies for meeting cities’ climate finance needs. 📒 CCFLA and Urban-Act’s Enabling Framework Conditions assessment tools were launched at the India Pavilion with representatives from India and the Philippines sharing their experiences of implementing the tools. 🤝 The importance of coordination and early engagement of financiers in the project preparation lifecycle were key highlights of CCFLA’s joint session with CDIA, featuring an excellent panel of leaders in the project preparation landscape. The CCFLA team also contributed to insightful discussions on topics including subnational guarantees, green and affordable housing, finance for nature, and resilience finance. We are looking forward to continuing these conversations with our members and key partners as we look ahead to 2025. Our thanks go to the team at UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) for putting on a fantastic forum and to all of our excellent speakers, panelists, co-organizers, and partners for helping to make CCFLA’s time at WUF12 such a success! #UrbanClimateFinance #WUF12 #WorldUrbanForum Priscilla Negreiros, Kristiina Y., John Michael LaSalle, Alastair Mayes Climate Policy Initiative, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, International Climate Initiative, Penn Institute for Urban Research, CDIA - Cities Development Initiative for Asia, United Nations ESCAP, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

🌍 #Cities are home to over half the world’s population, a number set to rise to 7 out of 10 by 2050. As urban areas expand, so does the need for climate finance—and the funding gap follows this rising trend. To meet the global climate goals and stay on track for a 1.5°C pathway, urban climate finance must increase by a staggering fivefold. The 2024 State of Cities Climate Finance report reveals that cities received USD 831 billion in climate finance in 2021/2022—an impressive figure, yet still far short of the USD 4.3 trillion needed annually for mitigation alone. This presents a huge investment opportunity, but we must act now. 📊 Explore the report to see how we can bridge the finance gap and build a resilient, low-carbon future: https://lnkd.in/g8xvB6hZ #climateaction #urbanclimatefinance #COP29 #sustainablecities #netzero
