They are all eager to start their careers in the non-profit sector and are ready to hit the ground running. Help us develop tomorrow’s non-profit leaders by hiring a Charityworks trainee. Hire diverse fundraising talent in your non-profit organisation with the Mark Astarita Fellowship. Mark, a fearless fundraiser who was deeply passionate about the sector passed away suddenly this April at just 64 years old. With the support of his colleagues at AAW and the generosity of a range of donors, The Mark Astarita Fellowship has been established in his memory, to support his career-long mission to diversify fundraising talent across the UK charity sector. Partnering with Charityworks, the fellowship will subsidise 50% of the Charityworks programme fee (bringing it down to £2297), and place candidates who have faced a range of barriers entering the charity sector into fundraising roles. We're seeking placements for the first cohort of Mark Astarita Fellows right now, with an ambition to place 20 fellows into fundraising roles across the UK charitable sector, with roles beginning between before February 2025. We've loved having you on the programme Frances Roberts and are delighted to have been part of your career journey!
Project Support Officer at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea | Charityworks Trainee 23/24 | Passion for creating social change through leadership and innovation
✨ Reflecting on an Incredible Year with Charityworks ✨ As my time on the Charityworks programme comes to an end, I’m filled with gratitude and pride reflecting on this transformative year. Being part of this renowned leadership development programme has been transformational in my leadership practice for myself, others and hopefully someday the sector. Over the past 12 months, I’ve had the privilege to: 🌟 Collaborate with an amazing network of passionate professionals, all driven by a shared mission to create social impact. 📚 Learn from thought leaders and peers, through learning sessions and conferences, deepening my understanding of leadership, strategy, and the challenges facing the sector. 💡 Grow personally and professionally, building skills that will stay with me for a lifetime. To my fellow trainees, mentors, and everyone I’ve worked alongside—thank you for your support, insights, and encouragement. Chris Adair Megha Zavar Ryoko Umemoto Sindija Sevcuka Isabella Salzano Heather Wallace and the wonderful Charityworks team Ashanya Griffiths Jordan Rolfe Today also marks exactly one year since I started at Lancaster West Neighbourhood Team, supporting the delivery of the UK’s first net-zero social housing estate. Looking forward to a future of continued growth, impact, and purpose. 🚀

Rachel Whale, Koreo's CEO, has written a poignant article for Civil Society Media Ltd on the importance of diversity within the charitable sector. Rachel expresses how the lack of diversity and inclusive recruitment is preventing the sector’s ability to deliver meaningful change. Her advice to charities is to implement blind recruitment, simplify job descriptions by removing industry jargon, and focus on essential skills rather than qualifications. Rachel also explains how important it is to build a strong talent pipeline, by ensuring entry-level jobs are available and for young people to be developed within charitable organisations. Charityworks, one of Koreo's programmes, was founded in 2009 for this purpose – to recruit diverse young talent, and equip participants with the tools they’ll need to thrive in the sector. A lack of diversity is holding the charity sector back. Despite greater acknowledgement of the need to diversify their workforces, non-profit organisations are struggling to recruit diverse talent, while individuals from underrepresented communities continue to face significant barriers to accessing roles. Without diverse workforces, organisations struggle to innovate, make informed decisions, and fail to reflect the lived experiences of the communities they serve, leading to strategies that are misaligned with actual needs. Is your non-profit struggling to recruit diverse talent? If so, we can help. We have candidates ready to fill vacancies right now. Thank you Nora Russell for the kind post. We're delighted to be working with you and the Khulisa team, and really appreciate you signposting the support we need to help our talented Charityworks trainees.
Over 15 years in relationship-based fundraising and philanthropy - looking to keep questioning and inspiring and to quiet my people pleasing and avoidant saboteur.
Just had a great call with the Charityworks onbaording me as a trainee supervisor. It's a great organisation, through which we recruited our newest member of the Khulisa team - Flora Scott-Maxwell who is already having an impact and helping us find solutions to barriers we've struggled with for an age - the benefit of a young fresh pair of eyes on old entrenched problems! Great news to see that this year, inline with Charityworks commitment to diversity and inclusion they're taking on young people with a range of backgrounds, no degree needed! But they need volunteer support with a range of things to create a really informed programme for new recruits entering the charity sector; - Mentors - Assessment and selection panels - Conference speakers - Impact research markers if you've got experience in the charity sector, a topic that you could speak on to the next generation of charity sector employees, or the time to offer gudance to a mentee, get in touch with the team Ashanya Griffiths
