Warning, you may not agree. P.S. that's just fine. I was having a chat with a neighbour recently about #electricvehicles - I spend a lot of time talking about EVs, #batteries, #renewables and anything #energytransition - it suddenly dawned on me why I personally ❤️ my EV ... [disclaimer, this is about personal choice, not propaganda] ... I don't like engines, I don't care for combustion, I have no interest in tinkering under the bonnet, changing oil, going to a mechanic to have them tell me it's going to cost a fortune to repair, staining my driveway, care and maintenance and beyond ... I especially don't like the loud noises that cars make [I'd much rather be on a dance floor for loud noises] ... The crux of it is; "If you 🫵 don't like cars, you'll love ❤️ an EV." I am fortunate enough to charge at home - as a big chunk of the population can too [circa 60%, right FairCharge?] - if I am on the road the #publiccharging #network works [correct InstaVolt?] when I need it, I save money on running costs, care and maintenance, and literally don't have to do anything to my "battery on wheels" ... I also told my neighbour; I understand EVs aren't yet for everyone, just like the #internet wasn't, #mobilephones, #flatscreenTVs, #onlineshopping and a lot of other things that are now ubiquitous in our lives ... He said he is likely to become a two power train home soon, with one EV and one ICE for tinkering ... So, to everyone that keeps telling me a rebrand of a company to show off a concept car that no one can buy in a City at the "ground zero" for climate risk will get us all talking about EVs, let's get going on those conversations, and start talking about the upside of EVs for those that don't care a hoot about cars ... And if you do car about cars, that's wonderful too, you can tinker and wipe oil on your overalls for many, many, years to come ... if that's what floats your boat. I like dance music, sushi and scuba diving. You don't have to like those choices of mine either ... "Most mining projects are struggling with early stage financing, which is before offtake contracts are negotiated," Andy Leyland, managing director of S C Insights, a battery materials consultancy, told Mining Journal. "While industry will appreciate all financing avenues made available, the key is to advance financing, or conditional offers thereof, at an earlier stage than the Chinese will," he added. I recently had the pleasure of joining Shayle Kann to discuss one of my favourite topics, battery prices, for an episode of the Catalyst podcast. In this episode we discuss some of the reasons we are now seeing ultra low prices for lithium-ion batteries from China, and if it will be possible for western manufacturers to compete. BloombergNEF recently reported LFP cells for as cheap as $53/kWh from China, a price range that the industry hadn’t expected to achieve until closer to 2030. These prices are not necessarily reflective of the industry average and are unfortunately not reflective of the new normal pricing in the long term, but the fact that the industry has hit this price point is impressive.
