Research has revealed an urgent need for employers to support gen X employees in enhancing their retirement savings. Born between 1965 and 1980, gen X started work when defined benefits pensions were closing to new members. It was also pre-auto enrolment, which started in 2012, so defined contribution alternatives were not yet widespread. As a result, this age group was caught in the pension system gap. But research from Standard Life shows it is not too late for gen X to save and employers have a key role to play. Public sector pay awards surpass ‘plateauing’ private sector 📣 “Significant public sector pay awards announced since the election, along with the additional public sector spending announced in the recent budget, have provided a welcome boost to public sector employers and workers," says the CIPD's senior labour market economist James Cockett. 📣 “In contrast to the public sector, anticipated private sector pay awards have plateaued and are likely to face downward pressure following the increase to employer national insurance contributions and to the national minimum wage announced in the budget.” CIPD James Cockett #Pay #PayAwards #EmployeeReward #EmployeePay #Wages #NationalMinimumWage #NMW #EmployerNICs https://lnkd.in/e3rU6ZP5

Invisible no more: how a returners’ programme is transforming work for midlife women “I was getting very frustrated that the first round of redundancies were midlife women. They were always, it seemed to me, the first to go,” says Jacquie Duckworth, co-founder and head of Visible Start at Visible Inc. "AI lies convincingly", so HR needs to argue with it, warned Michael Wooldridge, a director at the Alan Turing Institute director and professor of Computer Science at Oxford University. 🤖 He urged HR not to put too much faith in the answers offered by generative AI like ChatGPT, but to learn to repeatedly question and argue with it and demand more from it. 🤖 "It’s not designed to tell you the truth, it’s designed to tell you the most plausible thing," Wooldridge said.
