A big moment for our Oligonucleotide Manufacturing Innovation Centre of Excellence project for CPI in Renfrewshire this week with ground being broken. Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, and the UK Minister of State for Science, Lord Vallance, were both in attendance to witness the start of construction on the new facility. We’re providing multi-disciplinary services, including architecture, civil & structural engineering, mechanical & electrical engineering, BIM, process engineering, CDM, project management and sustainability, on this project which will be transformative for the UK’s manufacturing capabilities of life-saving oligonucleotide therapies, addressing growing global demand for these therapies. Due to be completed in 2026, the centre is located next to CPI’s existing Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre, a project which we also delivered the design for. We’re looking forward to working with CPI, principal contractor, Tilbury Douglas, and the rest of the team to bring this game-changing facility to life. Congratulations to Adam Rodger from our Architecture team who won a silver medal 🥈 at the WorldSkills UK National Final for Digital Construction – an incredible achievement! WorldSkills provides young people with a platform to showcase their talent and pit themselves against their peers to compete for a chance to represent their country at the bi-annual WorldSkills Olympics. Taking place over two days, the National competition tested the eight finalists’ skills through a range of real-world tasks, including creating models, integrating models and clash detection. They also got the opportunity to meet Minister for Skills, Jacqui Smith. Adam said “It was a totally unreal experience, like nothing I have ever been to before. There was a level of buzz in the atmosphere that was great. When my name was called on the big screen and I had to walk down to accept my medal it was a very proud moment for me, it made all the hours of practice worth it. Being able to compete against hundreds of other skilled students and professionals to make it to the final, then to come out with a silver medal is truly one of my greatest achievements.” #design #engineering #projectdelivery #worldskills #skills #future #talent #BIM #digital #construction

Great night for Holmes Miller at the GIA awards! We were delighted to be recognised with wins across three categories at last week’s Glasgow Institute of Architects awards dinner: Leisure & Arts, Education, and Sustainability Awards. Allander Leisure Centre, winner of Best Leisure & Arts project, was celebrated for creating synergies between sport, culture, learning disabilities and mental health services within a welcoming, user centric, civic building. Sciences Primary School, winner of Best Education Project, was acknowledged for design innovation having crafted a modern extension to the original 1892 school building, featuring the UK's first CLT Passivhaus-certified design. Buntingford First School, winner of the Sustainability Award, was recognised for being the first net-zero primary school in the UK, achieving low carbon emissions in both operational and embodied aspects. The project champions renewable energy sources, sustainable materials, and advanced design strategies aimed at reducing energy consumption. Congratulations to all the award winners and commendations, a very enjoyable evening hosted by the GIA, and a great testament to all the talent and hard work involved in creating places and spaces throughout the chapter. Making sure young people are armed with all the knowledge they need to make informed career decisions is something we're passionate about. This week Jamie McDaid MRICS from our Procurement team took part in the RICS Inspire Ambassador Programme event at Glasgow Caledonian University. Jamie spoke to 120 first year students about what RICS is, how the industry body can help them on their career path, and how they can get involved. Alongside this he took them through his personal career journey and route to becoming a chartered member of RICS, as well as what life is like working in procurement and contracts management. #design #engineering #projectdesign #procurement #RICS #careers #chartership #charteredsurveying

Today we’re celebrating GIS Day and all the benefits geographic information systems can bring to our projects, including: ➡️ Site analysis and selection: GIS enables us to carry out advanced optioneering assessments, evaluating potential sites by analysing factors such as land use, topography and environmental impact. ➡️ Infrastructure planning: Our team are skilled in undertaking detailed mapping and spatial analysis, using GIS to support the design and planning of linear infrastructure schemes. ➡️ Environmental impact assessment: By mapping sensitive ecosystems and analysing data, strategies can be developed that minimise environmental harm. ➡️ Aiding asset management: GIS helps with effective management of assets by providing real-time data on conditions, maintenance needs, and operational efficiency. This year’s theme, ‘Mapping minds, Shaping the world’ emphasises the importance of collective knowledge and collaboration in using geospatial modelling technology to address global challenges. Comment below and share your experiences of how GIS can benefit infrastructure schemes 👇 🔗 Find out more about GIS Day: https://lnkd.in/gBebXSX #design #engineering #projectdelivery #GISDay #GIS #geospatialmodelling #geographicinformationsystems

Two of our public sector projects received a very well-deserved Highly Commended from the judges at the IStructE Scotland Regional Group Scottish Structural Awards: ✨ Allander Leisure & Adult Resource Centre in the Best Project in Leisure category ✨ Maybole Community Campus in the Best Project in Education & Research Both projects provide their local communities with vibrant and state-of-the-art facilities. Allander Leisure & Adult Resource Centre boasts fully-equipped multi-sports facilities and a range of support facilities for adults with learning disabilities. Whilst, Maybole Community Campus brings three schools and early years centres together under one roof with interactive learning spaces and fully-equipped sports and leisure facilities. In terms of structural engineering, the two projects presented our teams with similar challenges, with big open spaces requiring long-span beams and their stacked nature. Both have games halls located directly above swimming pools, meant careful consideration had to be given to structural load and vibration.
