Congratulations to all organisations recognised as winners or highly commended at last night’s MediWales Innovation Awards in Cardiff. Members from our Cardiff office joined contacts, clients and members of the wider biotech, MedTech and healthcare community to celebrate achievement, collaboration and innovation at the 19th awards ceremony. It was good to see so many people at the event and countless familiar faces. Warm congratulations to Dr Professor Rhys Thomas and client Virtual Ward who won the MediWales Industry Judges Award for providing patients with data-driven, community-centred healthcare solutions. It was also great to hear another client name-checked as part of a collaboration with Hywel Dda University Health Board who won the Health and Social Care industry collaboration award for their work with Natural UK Ltd on NappiCycle. Abel + Imray are long-term supporters of MediWales and we look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with businesses driving innovation in these critical sectors and technologies. https://lnkd.in/eFHYcZzc #Innovation #Biotech #Medtech #IP #IntellectualProperty #Event #MediWalesInnovationAwards #Awards #HealthAndSocialCare #Healthcare #MediWales Peri Jones Simon Haslam Matt Laffan John Austin-Brooks Lucy Hunter

In March 2025, colleague Anne-Marie Conn will be delivering an MBL Seminars Ltd Learn Live seminar on Patent Applications & The PCT Phase - Getting the Best Value. This session will focus on whether/when to use International Preliminary Examination (IPE) and how to get the best value from IPE if it is used, exemplified by reference to the EPO as International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA). The content is to an extent relevant for other IPEAs. The session will also look at complementary aspects for getting value from the PCT phase, particularly PCT Direct and the Patent Prosecution Highway. Key points: ⚪ Practicalities of IPE - deadlines, formal requirements, matters to watch out for and advantages to seize on ⚪ Strategy in IPE - oral dialogue with the Examiner, co-ordinating families of co-pending cases, early certainty and ‘what next’ ⚪ Substance of IPE - admissibility and allowability of claim amendments, issues examined in principle and in reality ⚪ Patent Prosecution Highway - how it works, how it dovetails with IPE, when and whether it is useful ⚪ PCT Direct - what it is, how it works, how it can complement or replace IPE, and other strategic tips and tricks For further information, or to register for the seminar, click here: https://lnkd.in/eJjRkbSS #Patents #IntellectualProperty #IP #Events #Seminar #PCT #PCTPhase

This topic has come up in conversation at conferences and events we've attended recently, and we are re-sharing as a reminder. You may be disgruntled to see that one of your competitors has a patent application or granted patent (“patent right”) that you think is far too broad. The patent right may interfere with your business or may give your competitor an unjustified advantage. You want to make sure that your competitor’s rights are cut down to size, but just how can you do that? Read more in this article by Simon Haslam here: https://lnkd.in/emWZFUH #IntellectualProperty #IP #Patents #GrantedPatent
