Yesterday our General Counsel & Company Secretary, Katie Smart, moderated two panel sessions at the Economist Impact General Counsel Summit. First, Katie led the discussions around the role of legal operations with Lewis Bowman, Sapan Gupta and Sonya Rogerson, followed by the use of technology with Catie Sheret, Lisa Maxwell and Stéphanie Hamon. The Summit was a fantastic opportunity to bring together in-house legal experts to discuss strategy and innovation, and how an effective and innovative legal team can best optimise their support for their business colleagues #EconGC #GCSummit

Halloween 🎃 week has been nothing short of transformative, thanks to the privilege of shadowing Chris Abbott, Technical Systems Manager at Tarmac Birtley Office. Engaging with Chris provided an exceptional depth of understanding, as he generously shared not only the technical intricacies of Tarmac’s systems but also his vast reservoir of industry knowledge wisdom honed over 38 years of hands-on experience. The nuanced, experience-based narratives he shared offered insights into the business that are seldom accessible through conventional learning avenues. Adding to the experience, the office and people were incredibly welcoming, and the team went all out with some truly impressive Halloween decorations onsite! It brought a festive spirit to an already enriching environment, making the week memorable in every sense. Thank you, Chris, and the entire team, for the invaluable learning and warm atmosphere. #IndustryInsights #ProfessionalDevelopment #Tramac #Earlycareers #Mentorship #Technical #HalloweenWeek #TechnicalExcellence

Last week our inspiring Sustainability Director, Emma Hines, joined an expert panel to discuss the evolving role of sustainability leaders in driving climate action at BusinessGreen's Net Zero Festival. Led by Michael Holder, the session included Jules Cullen from Esri UK and Julia H Giannini MSc and explored the importance of collaboration, both within businesses, and across supply chains and industries. And the expert trio also debated whether every position in business is essentially now a sustainability role. Great to join this important corporate event 👏

We're proud to be supporting the next generation of skilled bricklayers! 👷♂️👷♀️ For the past few years, our Mortars team has sponsored the CITB Go Construct SkillBuild bricklaying competition, providing high-quality materials to help participants showcase their talent. This year, we've supplied bulk bags of mortar for all of the regional events and we're now providing a silo on-site in Milton Keynes for the big finale at the end of November. Best of luck to all of this year's participants, we can't wait to see your work in action👏

As we celebrate 200 years of cement production in the UK, Tunstead Quarry stands as testament to the evolution of an essential industry. Over the past two hundred years, cement has shaped our world. Tunstead Quarry is home to one of the nation’s critical cement kilns, producing a key ingredient for the concrete that helps to deliver new homes, schools, hospitals, workplaces, roads and railways, as well as the infrastructure that provides us with clean water, sanitation and low-carbon energy. Our super quarry doesn’t just produce materials – it showcases how industry and nature can coexist. From our resident Peregrine Falcons to our restored limestone grasslands, we’re proving that responsible stewardship matters. With 70% of our materials transported by rail, we’re embracing sustainable practices while delivering the essential minerals that will build the foundations of Britain’s future. So as we mark the bicentenary of cement, here’s to looking forward to a net zero future and another century of innovation and progress. #CementBicentenary #200Years #TunsteadQuarry #Nature

After a busy day of meetings on Thursday I really enjoyed getting out into Tarmac's Panshanger park in the late afternoon sunshine to check out some of our nature recovery projects. Firstly I went into the Chisel Shelf Woodland to see how the Longhorn Cattle have opened up a key landscape view in the new wood pasture compartment. Then I went to see our iron age pigs who have just been moved to their new home on our wetland scrapes. Looking forward to going back in a few weeks to see how their 'rootling' has created patches of bare ground and more mud around the margins of the scrapes. #NatureRecovery #Biodiversity #ConservationGrazing #Wellbeing

Fantastic work by the team on delivering such a significant upgrade to Liverpool One Bus Station🚍 Innovative materials like our HALO warm mix asphalt and CEVO low-carbon concrete have played an important role in reducing the project's environmental impact, in turn helping Liverpool move closer to its Net Zero 2030 goals. This project is another great example of how sustainability and infrastructure development can go hand-in-hand to create safer and more efficient transport networks. Well done to everyone involved!👏

Showcasing our completed works at Liverpool One Bus Station. We are pleased to announce that the comprehensive upgrade to the station's road infrastructure is now complete, delivering significant improvements to the area. This project, delivered on behalf of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, ensures the station meets the latest design standards while enhancing overall safety and efficiency. Key improvements include:   • Carriageway resurfacing • Concrete bay replacements • Renewal of ironworks Sustainability was a key focus on this project. We used our proprietary low-carbon HALO warm mix asphalt products, and the first CEVO low-carbon concrete in the North West. Together, these significantly reduced the project’s carbon footprint. The use of HVO fuel for plant and generators, along with waste segregation on site, further reduced the environmental impact of the works. These efforts contribute to Liverpool’s Net Zero 2030 goals while supporting a more sustainable future for the city’s transport infrastructure. We are proud to have enhanced this vital public transport hub for the Liverpool City Region. #HAMeansMore   Merseytravel
