Tarmac CEVO low carbon concrete - CPD sessions now available! ✅ Following the launch of our CEVO low carbon concretes, we've launched a new CPD module designed to provide specialist guidance on understanding low carbon concrete and how to specify them. It offers an in-depth exploration of the scale of concrete use in construction and what technical and operational challenges are associated with removing carbon emissions from cement and concrete production. I find this rather fascinating. Right off Carbicrete's website: "Replacing cement in the concrete mix presents the single biggest opportunity for reducing embodied carbon in the built environment. With every cement-free concrete product that is used, a project’s embodied carbon is reduced, helping us build a more sustainable future." Methinks that this warrants a bit more investigating! We know concrete is a fabulous product to build multi-generational structures if not for the intense contribution to GHG emissions in the manufacturing process. If you could remove that from the equation......oooh. Tell me more #Carbicrete ! #NetZeroNow #Decarbonization #RascomGreenBuild
Concrete without cement? 🧐 It looks like CarbiCrete has managed to develop a concrete by using a cement-free process that actually removes CO2 from the atmosphere. Their process is now set to expand in Ontario, backed by NGen funding. CarbiCrete’s cement-free concrete could be a step towards cleaner construction for everyone in Ontario. As big users of concrete, we are interested to see where this development leads! 👀

What happens to aggregates in UK construction? The environmental impact of concrete extends beyond the large carbon footprint of clinker production. Aggregates do not have a significant embodied carbon footprint, but the sheer volumes involved mean it’s important to explore this from a material and land use perspective. With the help of KLH Sustainability, HTS+ explored the impacts of raw material extraction in this new study on aggregates, and identified that there is limited data at present on where recycled and secondary aggregates (RSAs) get used. This summary sets out the insights of the research and seeks to open a conversation on what happens to aggregates in UK construction. Interesting article: Groundbreaking Cement-Free Concrete a Game Changer in Construction Cement-free concrete is a revolutionary material that aims to reduce the environmental impact of traditional concrete by eliminating cement from the mix. Cement production is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, so finding alternatives is crucial for sustainable construction. Instead of cement, cement-free concrete uses other binding agents, often derived from industrial byproducts. Some common approaches include the Alkali-Activated Cementitious Materials (AACM) that activate pozzolanic substances like ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) and pulverized fly ash (PFA) to create a binding agent.

A complete curing plan has never been more critical. C595 PLC, high Blaine C150, and high SCM replacement mixes require greater attention to best practices in curing. This statement is especially true regarding Initial and Intermediate Curing practices. Controlling early moisture loss has a more significant impact on these mixes. Even the best-managed 7-day water cure can't overcome and replace the moisture lost at that early age before Final Curing takes place. Contact us to learn more about how Green Umbrella can provide you with the most complete curing plan with our GreenIce Cure System. #ACI #PLC #ConstructionIndustry #Sustainability #GreenUmbrella #AmericanConcreteInstitue #Concrete #repeatableresults #sustainable #finishthis #easy #concretecuring
