I was encouraged to see the strong support for supply chain resilience from both Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Global Affairs Canada. It was also my pleasure to meet Canada’s Assistant Deputy of Global Trade, Mr Weldon Epp. Thank you Trade & Investment, Canadian Trade Office in Taipei for the kind invitation.

A sincere thank you to Andrew Klerck for speaking at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan’s Business Lunch last Thursday. During the discussion on the 'Productivity Paradox,' we explored how mental and physical health play a crucial role in the success of high-performing professionals and entrepreneurs. Here are five key takeaways for professionals aiming to take control of their health and perform at their peak: 1. ‘Investing in Your Health Yields the Highest ROI’ The most valuable investment you can make is in your health to maintain peak condition. Relying solely on your National Health Insurance (NHI) card as a benchmark for health management could lead to long-term health issues. While the NHI's key performance indicator is extending lifespan, it doesn't necessarily ensure ongoing health and functionality. Consider working with a functional medicine doctor to optimize your well-being. 2. ‘Identify and Address Health Issues Proactively’ As professionals, we're trained to identify problems and implement solutions quickly. The same approach should be applied to health. Recognize potential health issues that could impact your performance and take proactive steps to prevent or reverse them with long-term solutions. 3. ‘Don’t Attribute Health Decline to Aging’ Many health issues are related to lifestyle, diet, and environmental factors, not age, as was previously believed. Thanks to advancements in epigenetics, conditions once thought untreatable or irreversible can now be managed or even reversed. Never accept declining health as an inevitable part of aging. 4. ‘Question Medical Opinions Thoughtfully’ It is important to critically evaluate the opinions and diagnoses provided by medical professionals. Many Western medicine practitioners operate within strict regulatory frameworks that can result in ineffective treatments. Time and health are your most valuable assets, so it's worth seeking second opinions when necessary. 5. ‘Leverage Health Challenges to Fuel Success’ There is much to learn from managing and overcoming health conditions. Apply your business skills to gain control over these challenges and use them as motivation to achieve even higher levels of success. If you or someone you know is facing challenges related to mental health or chronic physical conditions that are impacting performance, Andrew highly recommends reaching out to Dr. Ryan Chiang. He is the exceptional Taipei-based functional medicine practitioner Andrew worked with to gain control over his own health. • The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan is pleased to present a business lunch "How to See the Future, Better" with guest speaker Michael Story. In the aftermath of intelligence problems leading up to 9/11 and Iraq, the US government dedicated large-scale funding to academic teams focused on improving the quality of predictions about the future. The winning teams were able to surpass the existing state of the art by substantial margins using fairly simple structured techniques and teams of dedicated volunteers. Expanded by private donors and investment, many of these projects are now seeing their insights adopted by organisations today. So how can humans learn to make better predictions? Michael Story is the founder of the Swift Centre for Applied Forecasting which develops and deploys new techniques for human judgement in predictive analysis. Before founding the Swift Centre, Michael was a “superforecaster” and later managing director at the Good Judgment Project, published on tax policy for the Adam Smith Institute, and developed psychometrics at a $10bn hedge fund. Michael studied economics at UCL London and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, and holds a master's in policy research from the London School of Economics. • The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan is pleased to present a business lunch focused on the impapct and future of crypto in the global financial system with Guest Speaker Alex Liu. We will delve into the impact of cryptocurrencies beyond the hype and hysteria of the past few years. With the continuous development and widespread adoption of blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies have become an undeniable force in the global financial system. This revolution is not only a technological and financial transformation but also a challenge to and redefinition of traditional financial systems. As CEO of MaiCoin, Ltd., Taiwan's pre-eminent cryptocurrency company, Alex Liu is well-positioned to see not only how crypto got to where it is, but also where it's going. Having lived and worked in Silicon Valley, South Korea and China, he is familiar with the technology ecosystems on both sides of the Pacific. In 2013, he co-founded MaiCoin as he identified an opportunity to fruitfully develop cryptocurrencies and blockchain in Greater China. Alex holds undergraduate and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University, where he was a Mayfield Fellow.
