Someone has to say it - if creating an D2C shopping experience isn’t top of mind, your growth potential is at risk. Ravi Kurani gets it. He learned this concept by launching Sutro, a sleek testing robot that monitors your pool or spa water, giving you instant status right to your smartphone. Right now, they complete 95% of their business DTC through Shopify, but are actively working on equipping retailers with their software in-house. This way, consumers can bring pool samples directly to the experts for further testing and full visibility. The lesson here? Once you’ve found your lane in one channel, don’t stop. Taking this a step further, he also mentioned they are looking to find ways to integrate their data with home automation platforms. Always ahead, he likes to continuously figure out how to work with the interfaces of today AND tomorrow. While not every plan will pan out, that’s not the point. His final words of wisdom were this, “Perfection is the enemy of progress.” Be open to new opportunities, and don’t be afraid to flop at first - it will make you, and your product better. This is a tough post: In the last two years, I experienced the heartbreaking loss of a B-school batchmate, an ex-coworker, an ex-client, and a good friend—all to mental health struggles. Men are often great at showing strength on the outside, but many of us shy away from sharing what we’re truly going through. Society has conditioned us to think vulnerability is weakness, but the truth is, seeking help is one of the boldest and bravest steps we can take. On this International Men's Day, my message to myself, my friends, and my colleagues is this: Be kind to yourself. Let’s normalize asking for help, checking in on each other, and creating safe spaces for open conversations. Together, we can challenge the stigma and build a world where mental health is treated with the compassion it deserves. Extremely grateful to Vineet Mahajan for this insightful discussion at Blueshift Engage! My key takeaways: 1️⃣ CDP vs DWH, and the importance of real-time engagement: Vineet talks about how their journey with first party data started with setting up a data warehouse. However, he points out that there was a big gap around real-time actionability, and that's why they decided to bring in a #CDP. Now they are able to not only combine warehouse data with real-time events to build profiles, but also act on these profiles in real time for both inbound and outbound engagement. 2️⃣ Democratizing data for marketers: One of the big topics he talks about is around making data actionable for marketers, and eliminating the need for complex technical queries to access insights from the data. In his words, "there is so much functionality available in there that you don't need engineers". 3️⃣ Combining Customer AI with Content AI: One of the key things Vineet highlighted was how content and commerce com together in the customer journey. First, in a typical "funnel", the content educates at the top of the funnel leading to commerce and conversions at the bottom. More importantly, however, content can then extend the journey beyond that first conversion, and help create a "flywheel"instead of a dead-end funnel. We talked about the importance of combining Customer AI (that helps understand the customer's journey) with Content AI (that recommends the next best content to extend the journey, and create the flywheel). Whether you are just getting started with your CDP and Engagement journey, or are looking to start using advanced AI, there are a lot of great nuggets of wisdom in Vineet's talk. Anumati by Perfios AA is growing at a scorching pace typical of early-stage startups in a nascent industry. Our key metric is the number of successful data fetches we do on behalf of data principals. Benchmarking the *month* of Apr ’23 at 100, we scaled to 2,000 *last week*! While there are operating challenges in managing this pace of growth, it is crucial to keep both ears open to listen to what customers are telling us. We were fortunate to collaborate with CGAP on a research project to listen to customers. Some select highlights here, do go through the entire report here, it’s an excellent read https://lnkd.in/gxA7ZJCV 1.     “Users of the Account Aggregator ecosystem are financially savvy and active users of digital payments services.” This is intuitive, given that we are targeting users who are already data-rich and want to get economically rich using their own data. 2.     “Awareness of Account Aggregators is low.” A lot more effort is needed by all stakeholders to move the needle. 3.     “About 20% of respondents said they were willing to share data in exchange for benefits.” Clearly, we need to do a better job of communicating benefits – convenience, speed, and security 4.     “The majority of customers said they would not feel safe sharing data through a third-party.” This is an interesting insight. Users discover the AA option in the course of a product journey at a financial institution. It is important to leverage the trust that users have in their financial institutions and blend in the AA journey seamlessly. 5.     “For respondents who applied for a loan in the last 18 months, 10% reported using the AA option to share their data.” 60% are still submitting paper-based statements. Quite disappointing despite the explosion in digital payments and banks’ investments in digital transformation. We need another “depaperisation” moment driven by government / regulatory mandate. As entrepreneurs, we’re always caught up in putting our heads down and executing like our life depends on it (matter of fact, it does!). Inputs such as this report give us the confidence that we’re building something meaningful and of durable value, and actionable insights to make course corrections as we build.
