What’s keeping Singaporean 🇸🇬 Marketers and Advertisers up at night, and where will the investment focus 💰 be for 2025? The Yahoo Advertising (SEA) Digital Marketers Pulse study, conducted in collaboration with global market research company Milieu Insight shines a light on what the industry is really thinking and raises some big questions too… Here's the research 🔍 - 4 min read https://lnkd.in/gYNnns9r Points of note for me ( these are only 3 of the many insights we uncovered) 🌱 61% told us they are prioritising performance marketing over brand-building, with only 30% intending to focus on brand marketing in 2025. Let the debate begin here about the importance of brand building over time combined with online performance Vs performance only. 🏪 Only 21% of respondents ‘fully utilise’ online first-party customer data (eg: achieving best practice for audience targeting, measurement and attribution) and a mere 11% use offline customer data to its full potential. Meaning very few advertisers are connecting Data Culture to Audience Strategy and Ad Effectiveness, essentially closing the loop to give consumers a wholistic CX. 📉 73% of respondents said cost-effectiveness and transparency was a top priority, with reporting and performance measurement at 64%. With this in mind Yahoo is re-investing cost savings from performance outcomes back into campaigns with Blueprint AI vs simply lining pockets. I had the privilege to be on the jury for TikTok Ad Awards 2024 for Singapore - last week I got to meet some fantastic panel members: Jerome Bigio Kabeer Chaudhary Gonzalo Olivera Sulin Lau Deepika Nikhilender Chloe Neo Bianca Loo Manjusha Subramanian Jonathan Ong and as we reviewed the entries, I mentioned to my co panelist Jerome Bigio from Netflix that although #babyreindeer was fun to watch, the back to back binge reviewing of #TikTok content was even better! Jokes aside fabulous experience - big thanks to the Tik Tok team Kelly U. Mia N. Mathew Lay Janice Koh 许雪琳 Sammy Ng Joana Jee Jasmine Tan Namit Arora 3 observations and learnings: 1. more than size of brand, the depth of consumer understanding matters ... we saw some excellent examples where small multi thousand turnover brands trumped billion dollar brands, simply with their level of consumer intimacy 2. globally relevant, locally resonant.... global brands, global ideas are all good... the execution, the delivery, the punch... the more it weaves in the local threads, the more vibrant your canvas becomes 3. content creators' independence, while maintaining brand intent is necessary... for content to shine on Tik Tok, the story needs to stay true to the style, tenor and manner of the story teller, for it to travel We are in a world where platforms and ad types are evolving faster than ever before...and the power increasingly is shifting to the creators and the viewers...brands are but enablers.... it is a fabulous time to be in marketing...learning and improving each day thanks TikTok... looking forward to an even more empowering future, with you, with the creator economy and brands... all playing a role in this orchestra!

It's all about the strength of the Singapore brand: "Singapore’s strong brand name in China comes down to Singaporeans there: SM Lee". This is also about personal brand of these Singaporean leaders there too. It's great to see SM Lee being our brand ambassador in a tour of our largest trading partner, China, which, with the US under Trump, will just get bigger as the US trade deminishes as a result of the anti-anyone but the US policy he implements. Singapore is smart enough to have already prepared for this, hence our ASEAN and APJ commercial partnerships. "Singapore’s brand name and its cultural, business and personal connections with China have allowed the two countries to work together and learn from each other. Yet, Singapore’s own experiences have added value to the relationship. It is something that “we have to hold precious”, especially in current troubled times, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong told Singaporeans at a reception in Shanghai. The statesman is wrapping up a six-day official visit to the country, where he met President Xi Jinping and other leaders, visited Chinese tech companies and marked the 30th anniversary of the Suzhou Industrial Park, Singapore’s joint project with China. Speaking to a roomful of nearly 450 Singaporeans who live in China, SM Lee said: “Our Singapore brand name is worth a lot in China. People know about us, they admire us, and they would like to know us better and to do more with us. “And I think that is something which is very valuable.”" Sopt on. The e-Conomy SEA Report, a partnership between Google, Temasek and Bain & Company, is back for its 9th year running, and reveals an incredible trend: Southeast Asia's digital economy is not only expanding but also becoming increasingly profitable. We recently partnered with Kantar to release a new study on Retail Media Networks in SE Asia showing the RMN trend, while early days, is growing faster in SE Asia than global averages and is indeed a Full Funnel Omni-channel experience. 🌊The study by GrabAds and Kantar found that RMN ad spend is expected to surge by 73% in the next seven years, surpassing growth rates in search (47%) and social (45%). 🇮🇩 The study forecasts that Indonesia will lead the pack with a projected 13.41% CAGR in RMN ad spend, with 🇻🇳Vietnam and 🇹🇭Thailand rounding out the top three. 🙋🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️ The study noted that unlike the other RMN types that cover specific purchase stages, superapp RMNs can reach consumers at all stages of their buying journey, from awareness to purchase. Live streaming has become extremely popular in Chinese e-commerce with platforms like Douyin and Kuaishou. My prediction is this will become more prominent in the Western world over the next several years. YouTube has hinted they may explore similar partnerships with other marketplaces which could place them at the centre of e-commerce live streaming by the end of the decade. In recent years we've seen the explosion of social e-commerce in #brandprotection and #anticounterfeit with Facebook Marketplace and TikTok Shop and we could be witnessing the next major growth phase with live streaming.

Inch by inch! "Many Singaporeans on the fence about LGBTQ issues, Ipsos survey finds". This is a fascinating survey on the glacial changing of attitudes towards LGBTQ here in Singapore in Pride month. As a conservative country, which is generally accepting but not condoning or promoting non-traditional relationships, it's interesting that people are less opposed to LGBTQ but still don't want to see them in their faces! "More Singaporeans support LGBTQ rights than oppose them, but a significant number remain undecided on such issues, a survey by market research firm Ipsos has found. In particular, people are on the fence about issues relating to how prominent these individuals are in everyday life. These included how open LGBTQ individuals should be about their sexual orientation and relationships, and having more LGBTQ characters on television, and in films and advertising. On other questions, such as whether same-sex couples should be allowed to adopt children, more people are supportive and the undecided group is much smaller. Singapore ranks in the bottom half of countries surveyed in terms of the level of support people had for LGBTQ couples displaying affection in public, same-sex marriage and adoption by same-sex couples, among other things. And when it comes to topics such as having more LGBTQ characters on TV, or LGBTQ couples displaying affection in public, the poll found that the biggest group is that of respondents who neither support nor oppose them. Some 43 per cent neither support nor oppose public displays of affection by LGBTQ couples, compared with 27 percent who support this and 30 per cent who do not. On whether LGBTQ people should be open about their sexual orientation or gender identity with everyone, 40 percent of respondents are also on the fence, compared with 45 percent who support this, and the 15 per cent who do not." In a country where our leaders espouse the benefits of marriage and love, as long as that love and marriage is hetrosexual, it's welcome at least that attitudes are not against if not for LGBTQ. The realities of our extremely low birth rate, women deciding to not get married and not play the BTO game of marriage = babies (which the last 30 years has shown is actual fiction as our birth rate continues to decline), means that eventually we will have to allow Singaporean LGBTQ couples to have babies and give them a home to live in. But there is a vocal ignorant minority of religious fanatics/snowflakes, (take your pick they're all the same to me), who will oppose this. However, as a secular country with more people who are atheist (like me), agnostic and Buddhist than Christian/Catholic/Islamic/Hindu it's a battle for the hearts and minds to change these attitudes. Of course not everyone who is not religious is for LGBTQ and not everyone who is religious is against but they do tend to fall within those lines. Inch by inch. What do you think?
