🌟 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐒𝐆2024: 𝐀 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 🌟 As we prepare for Regional Scrum Gathering Belgrade 2024, it's essential to reflect on how far Agile methodologies have come since their inception. From the early days of the Agile Manifesto to today’s complex, scaled frameworks, Agile has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of teams and organizations worldwide. 🔎𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐞'𝐬 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲: 2001: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨: It all started with 17 thought leaders coming together to create the Agile Manifesto, a set of values and principles designed to enhance software development. This was a revolutionary shift from traditional, rigid project management methods to a more flexible, collaborative approach. 2004: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐗𝐏: Scrum and Extreme Programming (XP) gained popularity as effective frameworks for implementing Agile. Their emphasis on iterative development, customer feedback, and teamwork laid the groundwork for widespread Agile adoption. 2011: 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐞: As Agile principles proved successful in small teams, the need to scale these practices across larger organizations became evident. Frameworks like SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) and LeSS (Large Scale Scrum) emerged, enabling Agile to be implemented at scale. 2020: 𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝: The global shift to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic tested the adaptability of Agile teams. Scrum rethinks project organization for the needs of product development in a fast-changing world. The Scrum Team now handles the project manager’s duties... and more! If your current job title is “project manager,” what does that mean for you? 📖 The Project Manager’s duties have been divided among the Scrum roles. In Scrum, the Scrum Team is responsible for “all product-related activities.” Most of the duties of the project manager are now explicitly owned by the whole team. Some of those duties land more with the Developers, e.g. day-to-planning and organization. Others are more with the Product Owner, especially long-term planning and time management (release planning). The Scrum Master has a sharper focus on team effectiveness by ensuring both that the process flows and that impediments are quickly identified are resolved. Other duties are deprecated or rethought. Nobody assigns work to anybody in Scrum. The Developers take work in Sprint Planning and the Daily Scrum. Scrum Teams are relatively stable, adding or dropping members only occasionally. People are not routinely shuffled in and out of the team. And since product development never really ends, Scrum doesn’t bother to define how to do it. That part of the “et cetera” in the team’s job description. 👉 Peter’s take – what does Scrum mean for current project managers? Although I am a great fan of Scrum, I don’t believe the job title “Project Manager” will disappear. (Could you imagine the PMI renaming itself to the Agile Mastery Institute? Seems unlikely.) I do think the focus will move from Controller to Accelerator. In an age where innovation speed is a critical market advantage, I think refocusing the project manager roles to a project accelerator role seems like a change that would be welcomed by many. It has certainly gotten resonance with the project managers I have spoken to.

Unwritten rule #6 for Project Manager You as a Project Manager should have an enormous background to be able to run projects. For example, if you do software development, you should have background in QA, design, development, devops and lots of different areas just to be able to understand each production step of the project you manage while simultaneously there is a myth that Project Manager is only scheduling calls and dragging tasks in Jira. #Productowners are #value maximizers. They ensure the #Scrumteam focuses on the things that matter most. A very interesting piece by Willem. Product Owners play a crucial role in #Scrum but must avoid several common pitfalls.  The Product Owner is accountable for effective Product Backlog management, which includes developing and explicitly communicating the #ProductGoal, creating and clearly communicating the pbi… Effective collaboration with the Scrum Team is essential, also participating with the team in the Scrum events. Here are a few points any #team can face: 1.      Acting as the team’s manager 2.      Stay outside of the team 3.      Suffocate developers with meticulously crafted product backlog items 4.      Determine the technology to be used 5.      Push the scope of the sprint 6.      Ignore the team capacity 7.      Lead the Daily Scrum 8.      Enforce skipping parts of the DOD 9.      Ignore the purpose of the sprint Review Wanna thank Willem for sharing, its so useful in our daily working life :)

💡 How to Foster Team Self-Organization in Scrum? Recently, my team repeatedly emphasized that daily scrums are their meeting, and they can manage without my facilitation. As a Scrum Master, I fully agree that the daily scrum belongs to the team, and my role is to help them become more self-organizing. So, I implemented a new practice: now, each team member will facilitate the daily meeting on a rotating basis. The goals are simple: 1. Stick to the 15-minute timebox. 2. Ensure that every team member has a chance to speak. 3. Stay focused on the sprint goals and avoid diving into too many technical details. 4. Highlight any risks or dependencies affecting the work. 5. Provide transparency so everyone knows what each team member is focused on. This approach isn’t just about making daily scrums more effective. It’s also about helping each team member develop facilitation skills and take a bigger role in their own self-organization. As a Scrum Master, it’s important to remember that, according to the Scrum Guide, I’m not required to lead the daily scrum. It’s a team event, and they are responsible for conducting it.
