Unwritten rule #6 for Project Manager You as a Project Manager should have an enormous background to be able to run projects. For example, if you do software development, you should have background in QA, design, development, devops and lots of different areas just to be able to understand each production step of the project you manage while simultaneously there is a myth that Project Manager is only scheduling calls and dragging tasks in Jira. I don’t think of project management as being a discrete discipline. Instead, project management involves managing many activities that—in the aggregate—lead to success. Whether it’s done by a single individual, a group of managers, or multiple team members, someone must have the responsibility for each of these domains for the effort to succeed. There are probably others as well, but this article describes how project management is a composite of managing people, requirements, expectations, tasks, commitments, risks, communications, changes, resources, dependencies, contracts, and suppliers. #project #projectmanagement #management #projectplanning #estimation #software #softwaredevelopment #softwareengineering #agile #scrum #productowner

HANDLING SETBACKS IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT: How to handle Setbacks while managing Projects: It is very crucial for every Project Manager to handle Setbacks while managing Projects.. The setbacks could be complicated and difficult to sail through sometimes, depending upon their nature and complexity involved. Many a times, an overly optimistic plans and goals might lead to such setbacks in achieving the goals as planned. This could be because of many reasons. We as Project Managers can overcome such problems by following few steps as below: 1. Determine what's gone wrong. Conduct proper root cause analysis. Do not jump onto conclusions, until the causes are discussed openly with team. 2. Brainstorm with the team, Stakeholders and come up possible solutions. 3. Take Client into confidence on addressing the issue with possible solutions.. 4. Adopt new strategies and mitigate the risks of further delay or damage to the project. 5. Have open dialogue with Team on reasons for the issue. Have an Open and 360 deg Retrospection on the causes... 6. Document the lessons learnt and ensure to make them enlisted into Risk register depends upon the type of Issue the Risk created. By adopting the above listed steps, one can overcome the setback as soon as possible, bring the stakeholders into confidence and ensure such issues are not repeated. I am sharing a few posts, one daily. These are educational videos. Each video might be 15-30 minutes. We know we are biased, but they would be worth your time. Today’s video covers #projectmanagement #methodology and the six components of a #PMMethod. LinkedIn is crowded with posts about project management methodologies, what they are, which is the best, etc. Some professional associations are adding to the confusion. The problem is that most " methodologies " promoted or discussed (waterfall, #agile, wagile, agifall, digital, #hybrid, etc.) ARE NOT project management methods. They might be concepts, product development approaches, or something like that. I will borrow a hashtag from Adrian Dooley #nohybrid. In our professional opinion, any PM Method must have six components, which we discuss in this video. If any of these six components are absent, we do not have a #Project #Management #Method; it is something else. "project managers should strive to increase the percentage of decisions being made based on objective evidence such as customer input, rather than subjective, arbitrary assumptions. Consider measuring how many new initiative proposals are backed by market data, rather than just someone’s opinion that it’s a good idea. While it’s not always possible to precisely quantify how decisions are being made, even just regularly thinking about the question can help keep project managers on track." https://lnkd.in/gsmf4FPz.
