Who Is Paul Giamatti's Girlfriend? All About Clara Wong

Paul Giamatti has the support of his girlfriend Clara Wong.

Amid his award season success for his role as Paul Hunham in The Holdovers, the actor has had Wong by his side for big industry events. 

During the Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 14, the actor gave a special shout-out to Wong as he took home best actor. “I want to say, I love my beautiful girlfriend Clara Wong,” he said on stage. “Why you bother with me, I don't know why.” 

Though it’s unclear when the couple started dating, they previously worked together on the set of Showtime’s Billions in 2016. 

Since then, they have made a handful of appearances together. They recently made their red carpet debut as a couple in early January 2024 at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards.

She’s an actress 

Like Giamatti, Wong is in the entertainment industry as an actor. She has several TV and movie roles dating back to 2013 with some of her most notable projects being The I-Land, What We Do in the Shadows, Dear Edward and Billions. 

She’s a Scorpio

While Giamatti is a Gemini sign with a June 6 birthday, Wong is a Scorpio born in late October. On Oct. 29, 2019, she celebrated her birthday by sharing a photo of her cornbread cake with a candle; the comments were flooded with well-wishes from her followers. 

She and Paul Giamatti previously worked together 

Giamatti and Wong seemingly first met in 2016 on the set of Showtime’s Billions. On the show, Giamatti plays U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades Jr., the antagonist to Damian Lewis’ Bobby Axelrod, Wong had a recurring role as Troy, a dominatrix visited by Giamatti’s character.

Though it’s unclear when Giamatti and Wong started dating, the two have given several glimpses of their relationship. In October 2019, Wong was by Giamatti’s side at the unveiling of the Paul Giamatti Fundraiser for the Denali Foundation at the Yale Club. 

In August 2020, she posted a dimly lit photo of what appears to be Giamatti on Instagram alongside a fish emoji, and in March 2021, she posted a photo of Giamatti on set of Billions. 

In June 2021, she went public with their romance as she wished Giamatti a happy birthday. Since then, she has posted a number of cute tributes to Giamatti, including one post from his birthday in June 2023, in which she shared a photo of him smiling alongside the caption, “Happy birthday to this sweet soul! 😊🐬♊️.”

After appearing together at the unveiling of the Paul Giamatti Fundraiser for the Denali Foundation in October 2019, the couple made their red carpet debut as a couple on Jan. 4, 2024, as they attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards. They later stepped out together at a Golden Globes afterparty where they were photographed sharing a laugh.

As Giamatti took home best actor at the Critics Choice Awards, he made sure to thank his loved ones, including Wong, his late father Bart Giamatti and his son Samuel, whom he shares with his ex-wife Elizabeth Cohen. 

Speaking of Wong, the actor said: “I want to say, I love my beautiful girlfriend Clara Wong. Why you bother with me, I don't know.”

Wong continued to be a style standout at the awards shows she attended alongside Paul Giamatti, including the Oscars on March 10, 2024. And Giamatti definitely took notice.
