Longtime pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy stopped by Good Morning America on Tuesday and revealed some of the professional dancers who will be returning to the ABC reality dance competition in September. “It’s going to be amazing. We’re going to have an incredible cast, as always,” Chmerkovskiy said on GMA. “But I’m also excited for the pros. We have a lot of different pros coming back. Some pros from back, back in the day, so I’m excited.” Chmerkovskiy wasn’t allowed to reveal the entire lineup, but he did announce that in addition to himself, season 22 pros Witney Carson, Sharna Burgess, Artem Chigvintsev, Lindsay Arnold and Sasha Farber are all returning. Also back in the ballroom are Allison Holker – who last competed in season 21 with singer Andy Grammer before taking a season off to give birth to her first child together with husband Stephen “tWitch” Boss – and Gleb Savchenko, who has appeared on the Australian and Russian versions of DWTS and was paired with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vandperump here in the United States for season 16. While the remaining pros have yet to be announced, there are a few names fans can expect not to see competing this season. Reigning Mirrorball champ Peta Murgatroyd is taking a season off while pregnant with her and fiancé Maksim Chmerkovskiy‘s son and Kym Johnson revealed Monday that she is officially retiring as a DWTS pro. “I love the show and I love to still be part of it but, you know, I still want to hang up my dance shoes and what a way to end,” Johnson – who wed her season 20 partner, Shark Tank star Robert Herjavec in July – told Entertainment Tonight when asked if she’s appearing on season 23. “It’s like, ‘Thank you, Dancing With the Stars.” Fans may miss Murgatroyd and Johnson out on the dance floor, but Val thinks mixing things up is good for the show. “It’s constantly evolving,” he said on GMA. “[This season,] we have a nice mix and balance of young kids that are inspired and very motivated to bring out the essence of this generation, but also we have some more classic, conservative dancers from the past as well, so I’m excited.” Season 23 of DWTS premieres Sept. 12 on ABC.
