Spider-Man actor Holland, 28, is in talks to star in director Nolan's next movie, which is also expected to have Matt Damon in a leading role, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety reported on Monday, Oct. 21. Nolan, 54, won the Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture at the 2024 Oscars for Oppenheimer earlier this year. While further details surrounding his next movie remain under wraps, Universal Pictures expects to release the movie July 17, 2026. A spokesperson for Universal had no comment regarding reports of Holland's casting. Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety each indicated Nolan's next movie will begin filming in early 2025. Those outlets noted that Holland's participation could affect production on the next Spider-Man movie and potentially even the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the latter of which are expected in theaters in May 2026 and May 2027, respectively. Holland last appeared in a movie in 2022's Uncharted alongside Mark Wahlberg. In 2023, he appeared in the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room and most recently starred in a London production of Romeo & Juliet, which wrapped in August. Sonja Flemming/CBS via Getty While Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures still have not announced Spider-Man 4, Holland recently said during an Oct. 17 podcast appearance that he and costar Zendaya recently read a pitch and a draft of a script for his next turn as Peter Parker. "There's a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it's exciting," he said during that podcast. "And I'm really, really excited about it." Nolan's most recent release Oppenheimer won seven total Oscars in March. The movie was one of 2023's major box office hits and stands out as the highest-grossing biopic of all time. Nolan's next film will mark his third collaboration with Damon, 54, who portrayed military officer Leslie Groves Jr. in Oppenheimer and also appeared in Nolan's 2014 film Interstellar. Close
