The romantic "will they or won't they" trope is one of the most hallowed in all sitcoms, but perhaps no couple did it better than Pam Beesly and Jim Halpert from The Office.

The "It" couple from the hit comedy took us through a rollercoaster of emotions, first with the ships-passing nature of their early relationship, then later with a marital strife storyline that made us wonder if they would be together as the series was coming to an end. Through all the ups and downs, Mr. and Mrs. Halpert gave us the perfect TV romance — mostly because of how Jim was so head over heels for Pam and was not afraid to show it.

As we celebrate this year's Sexiest Man Alive, take a look back at some of John Krasinski's best moments as Jim Halpert.

When Jim Was Stunned That Pam Kissed Him

The Office. S2 E1: The Dundies

NBC

Fans of The Office might remember the passionate kiss Jim and Pam exchanged in the "Casino Night" episode of season 2. However, the star-crossed lovers actually shared their first kiss some episodes back, when Pam drunkenly planted a smooch on Jim after winning a Dundie.

When He Confessed His Love For Pam

The Office. S2 E22: Casino Night

NBC

She was engaged and getting ready to walk down the aisle with a guy we all knew wasn't right for her, so when Jim poured his heart out and she suggested they be friends, romantics across the nation were equally devastated.

When Jim Finally Asked Pam on a Date

The Office. S3 E25: The Job Part 2

NBC

One broken engagement, a move to New York, a failed relationship and a very unfortunate office incident with pepper spray later, and Jim finally asked Pam out during one of her confessionals in season 3. The result? A very swoon-worthy moment for Pam and fans alike.

When He Proposed to Pam at a Rest Stop

The Office proposal

NBC

A gas station proposal may sound cringe to some, but in typical Jim Halpert fashion, it was thoughtful and significant to his and Pam's relationship. The proposal also came after a previous attempt went awry — in typical Jim and Pam fashion.

When Jim Bought Pam a House

The Office. Season 5, Episode 9: Frame Toby

NBC

Okay, so this is perhaps one of the more controversial gestures Jim ever executed on the show. After all, who wants to be surprised with a mortgage? However, the house in question was Jim's childhood home and he got a pretty good deal on it. And, when Pam found out, she thought it was the most romantic thing ever — so that worked out! (Just ... maybe don't try this one IRL.)

When They Found Out Pam Was Pregnant

The Office. Season 5, Episode 28: Company Picnic

NBC

So this episode went like this: Pam sprained her ankle during an intense volleyball match between the Dunder Mifflin branches. As she was the best player on team Scranton, she begrudgingly went to the hospital intending to be swiftly evaluated, then heading back to the game. The couple enlisted Dwight Schrute to stall until they got back.

However, after seeing the doctor run some tests, the audience quickly learns that Pam is pregnant and chokes up along with Jim as he tearfully makes the phone call for Dwight to send the substitutes in, while the couple celebrates their news at the hospital.

When Jim and Pam Got Married

The Office. Season 6 Episode 5: Niagara: Part 2

NBC

Between Kevin's toupée, Michael hooking up with Pam's mom, Andy's torn scrotum and that meme-worthy wedding dance ... Pam and Jim's wedding episodes are better watched than explained.

After a former flame called Pam "dorky," Jim, who was never a fan of dressing up for Halloween, showed his love for his wife by putting on the Popeye costume he had previously resisted. Awww.

When He Showed Pam a Movie of Their Love Story

The Office. Season 9, Epsiode 25: A.A.R.M Part 2

NBC

Toward the end of the series, Jim and Pam faced a bit of a rocky patch. To quell Pam's fears (and ours, really), Jim asked producers of the (fictional) documentary to put together a DVD of their love story, just to show her that his love for her goes beyond any job or anything else that might come in the way.

When John Krasinki Wrote the 'Sweetest Note' to Jenna Fischer

The Office. Season 9, Epsiode 25: A.A.R.M Part 2

NBC

In the compilation video, Pam learns for the first time, that Jim had written her a letter as part of a Christmas present some years back. Due to the hit-and-miss nature of their beginnings, he had pocketed the letter and never given it to her.

In the show, the letter is purported to have expressed Jim's feelings for Pam. In real life, however, it turns out Krasinski actually wrote a personal note to Fischer detailing what it meant to have worked together all those years.

“In that episode in season 9, I believe Greg [Daniels] suggested to John that he write a personal message from himself to me just saying what our time together on The Office meant to him,” Fischer revealed on the Office Ladies podcast, which she cohosts with Angela Kinsey who played Angela Martin on the show.

“So I’m on camera, and I open up this note that John’s written me, and I just start crying, I just start bawling,” Fischer said, adding, “the first take was probably not usable.”

“It was the sweetest note,” Fischer revealed. “And you know on camera, Pam says, ‘I’ll never say what it said, but just know it was perfect.' Well, I’ll never say what John wrote, but I will say, just know it was perfect.”

Do we need anymore reason to crown this man Sexiest Man Alive?
