Despite his phenomenal final performance, when he sang "I Believe I Can Fly," Paul said his confidence was low going into the finale. "I didn't feel good about the overall outcome," he told PEOPLE soon after. "I didn't know if I was going to win or not…I am very shocked. I honestly was ready to accept not winning. But I'm so excited."

Releases: No albums, but his cover of "I Believe I Can Fly" made the Billboard charts, as did his duet on "Soul Man" with coach Blake Shelton.

"I would love to do the pop/rock thing, but I know that I gained some amazing country fans and I know how hard it is to get into that world," the Florida native said after the win. "It is important to stay grounded and keep that normalcy in your life. She has definitely taught me that and reminded me of that."

"It means the world," Hoot said of his unexpected victory. "I think I went out of breath. I lost all my breath when they announced my name."

"Having Kelly believe in me from the get-go and being here tonight is just an incredible thing."

Todd Tilghman, Season 18 (2020)

The Meridian, Miss., native — known for his soulful country sound — was crowned the winner of season 18 of The Voice on May 19. The finale episode aired remotely from each of the coaches and contestants' homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"When my name was called, I blacked out," Tilghman said during a press conference with the country star following the win.

Added Shelton, "Todd is every bit as talented as the other four and I think the thing that may have put him over the top is relatability. He's somebody everybody hopes they can meet one day — I'm not surprised ... I wish I had a record label I could sign Todd to because I would make him a priority. There's no excuses. It's time. I want to support him in any way I can."

Carter Rubin, Season 19 (2020)

Carter Rubin — the Shoreham, N.Y., native — was crowned the winner of season 19 of The Voice on Dec. 15, 2020. He made history as he tied Brynn Cartelli as the youngest contestant to win the show at 15 years old.

"I'm just so proud of you. To be 15 years old and so incredibly calm and cool and in the moment, I'm so proud of you," Gwen Stefani said after his win. "I can't wait to see what happens after this show."

"words will come later. but all i can say is thank you," he tweeted following the show.

Rubin was inspired by his grandfather, a guitarist and backup vocalist for Jay and the Americans, to pursue singing. He loves playing music with his family, especially his older brother, Jack, who has autism.

Releases: Rubin has released two singles after appearing on The Voice, "Up from Here" and "horoscope."

Cam Anthony, Season 20 (2021)

Cam Anthony — a Philadelphia native — was crowned the winner of season 20 of The Voice on May 25, 2021.

Anthony's win marks a record eighth victory for Shelton, the most of any coach so far.

Now the winner of a $100,000 grand prize and a record deal, Anthony said fans can expect to hear an album from him in the future that's similar to his "journey" on The Voice.

"I want it to be a bunch of different genres," he said. "I'm just trying to enjoy myself and make something that's true for the moment."

Girl Named Tom, Season 21 (2021)

Girl Named Tom — consisting of Liechty siblings Caleb, Joshua and Bekah from Pettisville, Ohio — won The Voice on Dec. 14, 2021.

The group's win marked the fourth victory for Clarkson as a coach and made history as the first-ever non-solo act to win the show.

"America wants, and I think needs, the harmony, and the meaningful lyrics right now," Bekah told PEOPLE after the finale. "I think that you'll hear that in our songwriting. We're very honored to have had this experience to try it out, like, 'Hey, this is what we do. Do you guys like it?' Then to have America vote us through to the finale as the first trio, it's just like, 'What?!' We're so humbled and grateful, and it really has given us a new confidence."
