From the Magazine StyleWatch Last Look: Brooke Shields Featuring Daughters Rowan and Grier Henchy There’s no denying great genes run in this family. The trio talks to 'People StyleWatch' about everything from their favorite splurge-worthy denim to TikTok hacks and of course stealing from Brooke’s closet! People Editorial Guidelines Updated on August 28, 2024 03:53PM EDT Brooke Shields’ iconic (and controversial) 1980 Calvin Klein ad was one of the most successful marketing tools for denim… ever. “You wanna know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing,” Shields famously says in the spot, which further skyrocketed the then 15-year-old actress (who starred in Blue Lagoon the same year) to the top of the pop culture stratosphere. Now, more than 40 years laters, nothing comes between Brooke and her girls. Who better than the Jean Queen herself alongside daughters Rowan Francis Henchy, 21, and Grier Hammond Henchy, 18, (who Brooke shares with husband Chris Henchy), to dish on all things style and beauty for People StyleWatch’s denim issue. Below, we caught up with the trio who were more than happy to answer a round of our burning rapid-fire questions — and poke fun at each other in the process. Last pair of jeans you bought and loved Brooke: Nili Lotan were the last jeans — and I love them. Grier bought them for me sight unseen. Grier: Mine were low-waisted, light wash, baggy RE/DONE jeans.Brooke: I thought you were going to say my closet.Rowan: Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the brand, but the last pair of jeans that I bought were a really cool flare, high-rise with buttons up the middle that look really good [with] a small red kitten heel. Last ridiculous style splurge Rowan Francis Henchy and Brooke Shields attend the Los Angeles screening of Netflix's 'Mother Of The Bride' in May 2024. JC Olivera/FilmMagic Grier: A shoulder bag from Zadig [& Voltaire] that I bought, and I love it so much because it can go with all basic outfits as a little pop of something, but pink and sparkles.Brooke: A red Chanel that I traded three other bags for. I got a guy. He calls me when stuff comes i. He said, "We got a red Chanel," [and] I only had to pay a little bit for it.Rowan: This isn't ridiculous and I haven't purchased it yet, but it's in a cart online on my phone.Brooke: With my credit card?Rowan: Yes, thank you. It's the Rag & Bone sweatpant jeans.Grier: Oh, those are not crazy. Everyone has those.Brooke: Wait, what do you mean sweatpant jeans?Grier: They're so good.Rowan: They're jeans, but they're sweatpants.Grier: Sweans or jweats, jean sweats. They look like jeans, but they're so soft.Brooke: Sweats?Grier: Jean sweats.Rowan: Jweats.Brooke: You just got canceled.Grier: Didn't land.Brooke: Come on, it did for the old people. Least TikTok hack you tried Rowan: I am a victim to consumerism, so I have a lot of these.Brooke: Oh, you're a victim to consumerism, are you?Grier: We both have Stanley cups, and we got the Stanley cup ice cubes where it's the ice cube in the shape of your Stanley. It's so dumb, but it's so amazing because then they're hollow in the middle so there's a place for your straw.Rowan: I have been putting blush on my forehead. [Wearing] a lot of blush is in now. I will outline my forehead and my cheeks to make it look like I just sat in the sun and I got perfectly sun-kissed where I should get sun-kissed. Last step in your getting-ready routine Brooke: Ask what [my daughters] think. I go, "How do I look? Is this okay?" They both have opinions.Rowan: I tend to overline my lips with a very dark lip liner. I think it looks great. Brooke: It’s very Jersey Shore. I did [that] in the eighties.Rowan: That’s my final. And then that's also the step that I continue to do throughout the night.Grier: I feel like you have to pick the jewelry after you put on the outfit. It's if you want to go big or go simple, so I'm always putting jewelry on as I'm rushing out the door.Brooke: She's also the one that, at age four, said, "Mama, I believe in situational clothing." I said, "What do you mean by that?" She said, "Well, if we're anywhere near water, I like wearing stripes. If we are in Palm Beach, it's important to wear like Lilly Pulitzer. If we're in New York, black is always good." I was like, "Who are you?"Grier: Very specific from a very young age.Brooke: Very specific. Last thing you'd ever be caught wearing Grier Hammond Henchy and Brooke Shields attend the 17th Annual CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute on December 10, 2023 in New York City. Cindy Ord/Getty Brooke: Leg warmers.Grier: Skinny, ripped jeans. Skinny jeans are slowly coming back in with boots, which is fine. But skinny jeans with rips all the way down, absolutely not. Never. Rowan's like, "Oh, I just bought a pair of those just the other day."Rowan: I'm going to say an answer that I think people would want me to say, and that's capris. However, I've been working with jean capris for a while now.Grier: Oh, no.Rowan: And you know what? They're coming back. They're making a comeback. But I think maybe they could make a de-comeback for me.Brooke: Unless you're Audrey Hepburn in the '50s and you're doing a dance.Rowan: Well, there goes tomorrow's outfit.Brooke: No, but it's become a soccer mom thing, which has got to go.Grier: But those are capri leggings.Brooke: No, chinos.Grier: I feel like my jeans are capris on me. Brooke: Well, you've got long legs, long, beautiful legs. Last thing you stole from mom's closet Rowan: She has a really cool, giant chunky gold necklace with a bunch of fun charms that I've been wearing.Grier: Wait, I stole that. It's been in my room every day.Brooke: It just got redeposited back on my chest of drawers.Rowan: I wore it last night.Grier: Yeah, I was going to say that. I think I pulled it to the top of the closet. That's why they're wearing it now. Last thing you stole from your daughters’ closet Brooke: In my dreams I could fit into your clothes.Rowan: I was watching a morning TV show and you went on. I texted her after: "Mom, that's my shirt."Brooke: No, that was a sweater I gave you. It was Gigi Hadid's [line], Rowan: It was, yes. Guest in Residence. It was the brown, short-sleeved cashmere shirt. I texted her after I saw her and said, That's mine.Brooke: I wore it with a leather skirt and boots ... and I rocked it.
