Brad Pitt is ending 2013 in a big way – by celebrating his 50th birthday on Dec. 18.

It’s hard to believe this man has graced us with his golden locks and sexy squint for half a century. Our introduction to his sculpted visage in Thelma & Louise is still very fresh in our minds, but that was 22 years ago and Brad has stayed busy. In 2013, the actor starred in the blockbuster World War Z and the award show darling 12 Years a Slave, and – as always – he continued to make headlines with his beautiful family.

Brad Pitt’s aura is hard to ignore, but there are other Pitts (and pits) that need love too. Let’s also acknowledge those who truly made this year “the Pitts”.

Pitbull

Mr. Worldwide is living up to his name; Pitbull was everywhere is 2013 – including the pages of PEOPLE. The rapper spent the year touring with Ke$ha, breaking it down with Christina Aguilera, winning Latin Grammys and hosting the American Music Awards. No big deal.

Pit Bulls

This type of pit (bull) had us reaching for the tissues, and it wasn’t from allergies. The dog breed was part of some of 2013’s most heart-warming stories and touching rescues.

Michael Pitt

Warning Boardwalk Empire Fans – Spoilers Ahead: Michael Pitt has stayed out of the spotlight for most of the year, but his Boardwalk Empire character Jimmy Darmody arose from the dead for a 2013 must-see moment. Well, not exactly. In the season finale of the show’s fourth season, Darmody’s body was finally found, leading to a (twist) murder conviction and hopefully some peace in Pitt’s heart.

Pit Boss

The popular Animal Planet reality show about a pit bull rescue came to end in 2013. In its six seasons on air, Pit Boss raised awareness about the scorn and abuse experienced by this misunderstood dog breed and how this mistreatment can be put to an end.

Pitt’s Aaron Donald

University of Pittsburgh’s football team made headlines in the sports world thanks to their defensive tackle Aaron Donald. The senior swept through the 2013 collegiate football award season, picking up the Lombardi Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Check Bednarik Award and Outland Trophy.

Armpits

Yes, even armpits managed to turn 2013 into something special for the oft-maligned body part. Sweat exuded from this region was turned into a cheese for the Grow Your Own Life After Nature exhibition at Trinity College of Dublin. One small step for body odor, one huge step for armpits.
