Ariana Grande Says Releasing Eternal Sunshine Has Reopened 'Little and Big Feelings': 'It Has Been an Emotional Week'

Ariana Grande is basking in Eternal Sunshine!

As the pop superstar's seventh studio album Eternal Sunshine debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — marking her sixth record to reach the peak position on the chart — she's celebrating her successes and reflecting on how "emotional" it has felt to release her latest project.

On Monday, Grande, 30, shared a thoughtful post on Instagram about why the "album is most special to [her]" and thanking fans for their support since it dropped on March 8.

"i know i have been posting so much (i feel self conscious about that / also would like to keep going / thanking / celebrating !) but i just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart," the Grammy winner wrote in the caption of a video featuring clips from the "We Can't Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)" music video and teasing the album's accomplishments on the charts.

"it’s impossible to put into words what i’ve been feeling this week," Grande continued. "this album is most special to me for many reasons and just holds so much. sharing it has re-opened a lot of little and big feelings alike and it has been an emotional week in many ways !"

She explained that her fans' warm reception of the new project — which many have speculated is about her divorce from Dalton Gomez and her new relationship with boyfriend Ethan Slater — has helped carried her through the release. "but your overwhelmingly loving response to it all has made me feel such joyful, human connection and comfort," she wrote.

"just wanted to say i love and appreciate you all more than one can say and thank you again. it is, as it always has been, my greatest honor to grow with you," the hitmaker concluded. "｡˚❀ ·ꕤ let us promise to keep going ! .ﾟꕤ"

Grande's shared her sweet message to her fans shortly after it was announced that Eternal Sunshine debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, which is among the record's many feats.

The "Positions" singer's grandmother, Marjorie Taylor, who is featured giving advice on the album closer "Ordinary" also made Hot 100 history. According to a report by Billboard, Grande's beloved 98-year-old grandmother, known as Nonna, is now the most-senior person to ever enter the chart, since "Ordinary" was among the 12 tracks on the record to chart.

Eternal Sunshine marks the pop star's first album since Positions was released in 2020. The lead single "Yes, And?" arrived in January, debuting on the Hot 100, and she announced the LP shortly after its release.

Shortly after her seventh studio album dropped, the "Thank U Next" singer also shared a special edition of the record, dubbed the slightly deluxe version, featuring the "Yes, And?" remix with Mariah Carey, a rendition of "Supernatural" featuring Troye Sivan and other additional tracks.

In a February interview on the Zach Sang Show, the Sweetener artist said that in the years since releasing her last LP, her relationship to music has changed, thanks in part to her character Glinda in the forthcoming Wicked movie musical. 

“I kind of healed a lot of parts of myself alongside and through her and it actually helped me heal a lot of my own personal weird stuff that I had with my relationship to music and to being an artist,” she said. “It all happened absolutely how it was meant to be.”
