Some might call it the longest job interview in history, others the most thorough trial period. Either way, it’s been a testament to his unwavering commitment to our vision. It started as an innocent question in a Direct Message during a Webinar our own Adam Townsend was attending more than 2 years ago... "Oooh, what's Bike Matrix?" After 2+ years of mentoring our team in his personal time, we’re beyond thrilled to officially welcome Jon Davies to the Bike Matrix team as our Business Manager! Jon brings a wealth of experience in business strategy, growth, and leadership, with an impressive track record of helping companies scale and succeed. As a lifelong bike enthusiast, his passion aligns perfectly with our mission to revolutionise bike compatibility. From mentoring us through critical milestones to now stepping on board as part of the team, Jon's expertise will be instrumental as we navigate our most ambitious year yet. “Stoked” doesn’t quite cut it—we’re truly honoured to have him join the team 🤘

We’re ridiculously stoked to announce our latest customer, Spank Industries! Welcome to the Bike Matrix experience! If you’re into taking your tires off-road, chances are you’ve heard of Spank Industries. Known as the cool kids of the MTB scene, Spank handcrafts beautifully engineered components for the mtb crowd—and yes, they’re available in an array of blingy colors! We first started talking to the team at Spank when we were in our very early stages. They quickly pointed out, “The biggest pain point the team finds is trying to find resources at their disposal to help riders identify their existing hub standards and free hub body." That’s where Bike Matrix steps in! We’re thrilled to lighten the load for their team by providing our compatibility solution. You can see our work live on their D2C website, The Gravity Cartel, where we’re currently covering compatibility for their Front and Rear Wheels. 🛠️ Check it out: https://lnkd.in/ggepbS4v In our opinion, this integration with Spank is nothing short of “Full sick, bro!” 🤙

Our founding team just wrapped up an epic few days of strategy planning for 2025 (and beyond!) We dove deep into upcoming features, mapped out our next compatibility categories, and set priorities for the bike brands you’ll see on Bike Matrix soon. The first day was a marathon, and the team nearly missed getting out for a ride before dark—but luck had it we caught an epic subset just in time! Secretly we also caught a video of the three founders cruising down a hill like big kids on bikes! Want to be the first to hear what’s coming next year? Headsets are one of those components that the entire industry waits to pull apart and measure to determine the right replacement or upgrade. Why? Because they are one of a bicycle's most poorly documented yet complex components. It’s early days for Bike Matrix, but we’ve already mapped 45 different ways a headset can fit a headtube, which is thousands of possible combinations. With over 20 upper and over 25 lower steerer standards, the possible headset combinations, even without the marketing speak, are enough to make even the most seasoned mechanic dizzy. When assessing for compatibility we look at the upper and lower headtube of the frame, the upper and lower steerer of the fork, the frame and stem integrations, and the cable integrations as well! It’s just like pulling it apart to figure out what you need, except we can let you do it before the bike even arrives. Just want to replace the bearings? Don’t worry, we’re mapping those too! We have our headset logic going into testing shortly, so stay tuned for its launch early next year!

Which bike brand is your favorite? You’re only allowed to pick one! 🚴♀️🚴 For riders, a great bike brand can mean many things: ✅ Beautifully designed bikes ✅ Exceptional ride quality ✅ Strong warranty and recall support ✅ Easy access to spare parts ✅ Handy rider apps ✅ A brand loved by all But what about the industry’s perspective? 🤔 ✅ Stellar dealer support ✅ Transparent spare parts info ✅ Bikes designed with serviceability in mind ✅ Embracing the latest tech ✅ Rider-first thinking, even after the sale ✅ Comprehensive bike data So, tell us—what’s your #1 bike brand, and what makes them stand out for you? Truth be told, the team here is quite impartial and can be swayed by fancy paintwork also!

A year ago, we launched Bike Matrix with a humble brake pad finder, marking the beginning of our journey to make compatibility easier for the cycling industry. Fast forward 12 months and seeing how far we have come is incredible! This year we have: • Added 11 new compatibility categories and currently have another 4 in testing! • Added 50,000 bikes and 40,000 products to our database • Raised NZD $2M in investment to grow and scale our solution • Received a Government Grant to support the research and development of our innovation • Launched a brand-new Bike Lounge • Re-vamped our Compatibility Indicators • Won a Eurobike Award in the category of Digital Solutions • Doubled our team size with passionate bike lovers • Added multi-language support with precise translations • Had our app approved for the Shopify Marketplace We owe a huge thanks to our early adopters, beta test partners Frictive and Cycleways, our investors, our supporting manufacturers and our incredible team. Jump into the driver's seat! Here’s a sneak peek at what it looks like to be part of the team powering this incredible solution. Wide-screen monitors? A must. Multiple computers? Absolutely. The age-old debate of Windows vs. Mac? Alive and well, with a healthy mix across our team. Somehow, we’ve all ended up with meticulously clean workspaces (even if only for the photo!). A lot of hard work and dedication goes into the hours spent behind these screens, so it's always cool to see how each one is personalized. Can you guess who sits where? Can you imagine working on a spreadsheet that takes up a 34" wide monitor—with plenty of columns still stretching off to the right? What’s the most interesting thing you spot in these photos?

For anyone wondering: “As part of the setup process, does your system check whether my stocked parts are in the database?” Here’s how it works: Products in our database are identified by their UPC/EAN barcode and original manufacturer part number, which serve as the single source of truth. If you have any of these identifiers against a product, we can check it for compatibility. For stores using our Shopify app: During setup, our inventory check process instantly verifies if the parts you stock are in our database. A green indicator confirms the product is found! 🙌 Additionally, you can still use the SKU and Barcode fields for internal store references or distributor part numbers, while leveraging our Bike Matrix metafield for the UPC/EAN or original manufacturer part number. For custom sites: Send us a .csv file of your inventory, and our "SKU Checker 2000" will match it against our database. We're also working on an automated version, allowing stores to perform this check directly through a portal in the future. We ensure that every compatible product you stock is listed in our database. Fun fact: just last month, we added 12,500 products to our database!

Ever wondered how many bicycle wheel sizes are out there? At Bike Matrix, we’ve mapped 59 wheel sizes, 67 rear hub standards, 31 front hub standards, and more than 30 cassette or sprocket fitment standards. No wonder finding the right wheel can be challenging! Even after you choose a wheel that might fit, you need to consider infinite rim widths, 8 braking surfaces, 11 rotor mount standards, various rim profiles and tyre types, several valve types, tubeless status, and more to determine if the wheel is suitable for use on any given bike. Bike Matrix assesses all of these factors when considering wheel compatibility. Here’s a challenge; who can name more than two rotor fitment standards? 🤔
