“𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗷𝗮𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱” Food technology is at the core of Ojah’s business, yet it’s the people working with us that truly make a difference for our customers. So, who are they? In the coming months, we’ll put some of our colleagues in the spotlights to let them explain their daily work, share their vision on the plant-based market, and showcase one of their favorite Ojah products. Today we kick-off the series with our product developer Shar Pijpers! Having worked with Ojah products throughout her career as a meat alternative product developer, Shar has become an absolute expert and ambassador of plant-based. “Ojah is the common thread in my career so far. One of my first employers was De Vegetarische Slager, the company that launched Ojah products under their brand to penetrate the chicken alternative category. Next, I worked at Seasogood which also worked with Ojah products. It’s amazing to be part of Ojah itself now as one of the great pioneering companies in plant-based. Their technology is the staple technology to develop the category.” As part of Ojah’s research, development and applications team, Shar engages with our customers to understand exactly what they are looking to develop and which key attributes they desire – meanwhile constantly keeping a consumer focus. “From here I help map out available workstreams that can be anything from utilizing our existing portfolio to developing something new for customers. We do this in close collaboration with our process technologists. I also explore and develop methods for new premium products, such as our popcorn chicken and pork tenderloin.” Shar is highly enthusiastic about the ever-growing quality of plant-based products in the shelves of supermarkets and on restaurant menus. “At the same time, we know that more improvement is needed. Market research shows that most consumers will only commit to plant-based if our products match the meat and fish experience they are familiar with in their cooking repertoires. Taste and texture are absolutely key. Thankfully, there is still enormous potential from a technological point of view. Our technology evolution pipeline looks to keep expanding our capabilities and suitable applications to broaden and improve consumer’s options on the shelves.” Asked for an example of an application that embodies the endless plant-based possibilities with texture and taste, Shar chooses Ojah’s Flame grilled phoenix flake. “We recently developed this concept for our campaign ‘Ojah Anything is possible’ to illustrate the versatility of Ojah’s technology and showcase our wide offering outside the chicken-like texture that we are famous for. The flakes have a unique, soft structure, juicy yet firm and with enough bite. Developing the taste was a great creative process, as there were literally no limits. #meettheteam
