Today, 11 key players in the hydrogen value chain, including Nobian, handed over a Letter of Support to accelerate the development of underground hydrogen storage in the Netherlands to Nel Aland (Envoy for Energy Storage) and Kees Hansma (Director Transition Deep Underground) of the Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth (Ministerie van Klimaat en Groene Groei). Underground hydrogen storage is crucial for a functioning hydrogen infrastructure and market in the Netherlands. It will play an essential role in the future energy system by helping to balance hydrogen supply and demand and developing of the hydrogen market. Salt caverns are highly suitable for large-scale, fast-cycle hydrogen storage. It is currently the only proven and available technology for large-scale underground hydrogen storage. The signatories to the letter call on the Dutch government to leverage the Dutch Climate Fund further investigate underground hydrogen storage possibilities, which helps to de-risk the development of salt caverns for hydrogen storage. #EnergyStorage #Hydrogen #Sustainability #Innovation Sophie Hermans Alexander Kops Silvio Erkens Wytske Postma Henk Vermeer Suzanne Kröger Henri Bontebal Eline Vedder-Monaster Ilana Rooderkerk Koninklijke VEMW Uniper Equinor Vattenfall NLHydrogen Energie-Nederland OCI Global ENGIE Energie Nederland NV HyCC Energy Storage NL Nobian

As part of our Further Together community program, Nobian in Frankfurt proudly supported the ‘Tatorte’ (Crime Scenes) campaign. This initiative was organized under the UN’s UNiTE campaign, launched for this year's International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. In Frankfurt, the day was marked with an outdoor campaign ‘Tatorte’ (Crime Scenes), initiated by local support groups. The campaign included impressive images remembering some of the victims, a loud NO to violence against girls and women and, above all, information about where those affected can find help. Further Together is Nobian's community engagement program that enables our employees to get involved in projects in the communities where we work, building strong relationships with our neighbors and stakeholders and making a meaningful local contribution. #FurtherTogether #Community #Care #NoExcuse

The first Nobian PPA in Germany has been realized. Tion Renewables and Nobian have signed a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply Nobian with sustainable electricity in Germany. This partnership is set to support the reduction of Nobian’s Scope 2 emissions by 20,000 tCO2 per year. The customized PPA, spanning 2026 to 2028, will supply Nobian from an installed capacity of approximately 25 MW, with an estimated production of between 35 to 40 GWh a year, equaling the annual electricity consumption of 10,000 households. This PPA in Germany with Tion Renewables marks another milestone in our journey to achieve zero-carbon with 100% renewable energy by 2040. Johan Hospers, Director Energy at Nobian: “This agreement underlines our commitment to procure electricity in the countries where we operate and strengthens our sustainability efforts across Europe. The volume will be allocated to Nobian’s electrolysis plant in Bitterfeld in eastern Germany, where it will cover all electricity consumption during periods of high wind. Annually this is approximately 20-25% of the plant’s total energy consumption with an expected Scope 2 emissions saving of 20,000 tCO2 per year.” Nobian is keen to pursue additional PPAs in Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark over the coming years to expand our renewable energy portfolio. This will help to generate low carbon products by reducing CO2 emissions in our production processes for salt, chlorine, caustic soda, and hydrogen.
